i was at endgame at under 100 hours. for a live service game thats very impressive! you don’t need to spend a long time to get there if you just focus on mapping to your next story beat. but it DOES feel better to do it more organically

that's also true, i think artists of my particular flavor get a lot of numbers but its not necessarily dedicated folks whereas ppl who do writing get smaller quantities but WAYYY more devotion lol. it IS objectively a bigger commitment to look at peoples writing!

even fanfic of big things w/ characters people knoiw i also feel like people don't really engage with as much as artwork - BUT i do also follow visual artists more since that's my wheelhouse, so. i could be wrong

i cannot articulate myself how i want to because of sleep deprivation and lack of general education on this but i do sincerely think theres correlation between corporations stuffing us full of algorithm dopamine, the rise of AI, and lack of attention spans/general ability to function w/o stimulation

we pour hours into what we do as creatives, regardless of what it is, and it is disheartening to know that it will only exist in a vacuum for a few seconds on feeds, sandwiched between suggested posts. everything is 'jingle keys in your face and turn on subway surfers' these days.

in fact, allow me to go a step further: instead of seeing something and going 'ooh pretty colors' and moving on in general, take the time to really admire the art you see, whether it's paintings, writing, or music. if you take the time to pick it apart, you'll see why it's beautiful to begin with.
talking to my bestie about this but it does frustrate me how much non-visual art gets shoved under the rug and ignored on socmed as compared to visual art. yes, as visual artists we do things that are more instantly "grabby", but both mediums coincide. they rely on one another, even.

writing requires more than just looking briefly at your screen, hitting a repost button, and moving along. the arts are being algorithmically and deliberately reduced to "i enjoy this for three seconds and carry on" and it's honestly very aggravating. this is also i think why AI is on the rise.

i think if you're an artist it is worth looking at your pals' OC works and seeing if maybe they also inspire you.

fanart? none of this would exist without the writers giving us things to be invested about. we rely on their interesting lore, worlds, and character dynamics in order to get inspired enough to want to create things bassed off of them. it's what gives us emotional attachment.
