There is an important election opportunity for Georgia voters to have their say on the future of electricity regulation in the state. Turnout is typically incredibly low.

This is the other side of the renewables story that must be told more. Battery advances have decisively solved the problem of baseload power, they're fully capable of absorbing excess power generation during peak periods for use during slack periods.

Couple of possible reasons:

1. Fossil vs Renewable has become cultural politics, not economic politics
2. Individual billionaires surpassing "corporate" donations
3. Belief that those hurt are mostly blue states and/or Dem voters in red states

The energy provisions in the Republicans' One Big Horrible Bill are truly so bad! Who wants this? The country's automakers don't want it. Electric utilities don't want it. Data center developers don't want it. Manufacturers in energy intensive industries don't want it. 🔌💡

If we stop calling these “grants” and start calling them “contracts,” it’s clearer to people why this is such an abuse of power. This wasn’t a bunch of gifts. This was a bunch of binding contracts between researchers and the US govt for specific agreed upon projects.
Research into quantum mechanics, volcanic eruptions and all sorts of other studies already underway canceled for no reason - a waste of resources, loss of innovation and undercutting expertise across multiple fields.

The big question now is whether those Republican lawmakers step up to save the law, which their party’s majority in Congress is seeking to repeal.

Easy peasy. Send a short (polite!) email to National.FOIAPortal@usdoj.gov and say, please make it possible to submit electronic FOIA requests to the U.S. DOGE Service through FOIA.gov.

That's all. I'll take it from there.
