fyi about screen readers- they don't have a fast forward or rewind (I did not know this!). so starting an image alt text with a very short, high level description could be a useful thing to do.
My screen reader will start reading or stop. There's no fast forward/rewind.
Similarly, if I go back accidentally, it doesn't pick up the alt where it left off. I gotta listen to the whole thing again.
So starting with a summary description, before filling in the details is summat I'll try to do.

Since yesterday afternoon I have been inundated with messages from friends in West Bank— sadly used to occupation, checkpoints and closure— saying they’ve never seen anything like this. And much of it very far from Jenin, eliminating any suggestion it’s related to localised operation there
Roads in the west bank blocked, Palestinians from Jerusalem receiving text messages telling them to go back to Jerusalem, mass arrests, and almost 900 checkpoints set up across the territory.

Similar to my post about "liberation means even for that annoying guy you hate" - weird art includes art you personally don't get, don't like, wouldn't spend money on, find unsettling. Games you wouldn't play. Books you wouldn't read. Decommercialise your preconceptions of what art deserves to exist
Everyone saying "make weird art!" you better fucking mean it. There better not be an unspoken "but not too weird" tacked on at the end.
