Brief foray back onto X went well. Started a professional account with a view to just keeping an eye on things. I muted some extreme right-wing sources, followed some sensible ones and had my account suspended 3 times for verification, then permanently for “inauthentic” activity.

This is utterly inhumane.

Traumatised people unable to have any sort of settled life here, and liable to have everything turned upside down overnight as regimes change in unpredictable ways and with unpredictable consequences.

Casual reminder that the myth of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” is a cruel hoax designed to convince poor people from all walks of life that the injustices they face are a result of their own actions, rather than an oppressive system rigged against them.

Some of you from The Other Place may remember my lovely Labradors, both of whom died some months ago. I miss them terribly, but there is some joy to share.

Please meet Humphrey.

Left school with a few standard grades age 16. Got my HND age 23. Law degree at 28. Started my (current) career at 35. PhD at 36. Became a mother at 37. Today, at 40, I became a homeowner.

At times my “lateness” was frustrating, but I wouldn’t change it for the world.

BREAKING: In a unanimous decision, a federal court of appeals has ruled that Louisiana's law requiring the Ten Commandments to be displayed in all public school classrooms is unconstitutional.

We’ll keep saying it: Public schools are not Sunday schools.

Interesting to see how many people are talking about palliative care only now assisted dying is on the political agenda. Palliative care has been appallingly hard to access in this country forever. It is a disgrace. Dying in comfort, with dignity, should be a marker of a civilised society.

I am constantly baffled by the inability of people making this argument to treat children as humans. Take a family. You think they shouldn’t have had a third child. Maybe they did, in fact, make a bad decision. You win. Now, what do you want the child to eat: is your scolding especially nutritious?

“Should die.”

“Should die”

“Should die.”

Completely unnecessarily, from a preventable disease.

(Also, some of the “healthy” survivors will wind up sick or disabled, and I suppose falling into Kennedy’s basket of disposable people).
RFK Jr talking about the need for doctors to know how to treat measles for those who are unvaccinated.

“Only very sick kids should die from measles.”

No. They shouldn’t. That was the point of the vaccine. We eradicated the virus so children didn’t die.

Sick & disabled kids are not expendable!
