While I originally planned this to be a sci-focused acct, I haven't engaged in the science community as much as I had hoped. With my dissertation deposited, I now feel comfortable going by Dr. Fastow, so this is as good a time as any to fix that - so now for a thread summarizing my dissertation!

@fetterman.senate.gov your weak nonsense aligning with Trump on Greenland is going to lose us every one of our alliances
The incredibly lukewarm Democratic response on Greenland is being noticed in Europe, incidentally.

Chuck Schumer not finding a stronger word than “quixotic” for Trump’s plan to seize Greenland has been name checked to me more than once.
But Americans who want to save the alliance with Europe must have no illusions about how bad a condition this transatlantic partnership is in.

Immigration is an unalloyed good - any candidate with the moral fiber and courage to stand for open borders has my vote, time, and money at their disposal
"we don't want people thinking Democrats are for open borders" I am! who gives a shit!!! my life has been immeasurably improved by the presence of immigrants in my community, regardless of their status, there is literally no downside there! why would I give a shit!!!!

the question to ask about this is, okay, he wants to cancel the midterms. how does he get the VA state board of elections to cancel the midterms? how does he get the georgia board of elections to do it? how does he convince republican house members to quit their jobs and give up their paychecks?
Trump says a lot of deranged shit, but, per this Reuters article — and the threats of invoking the Insurrection Act in Minnesota this morning — he is very clearly exploring how to cancel the midterms.

This exact phenomenon drives me crazy in PA. The Philly metro area subsidizes rural PA, even as their senators talk down to us and refuse to fund our transit
Another critical piece of missing context in this story: tax dollars flow from the MSP metro to rural Minnesota. People in the city subsidize the lifestyles of people living in the country minnesotareformer.com/2023/12/04/t...

What can history teach us about what happens when a populist strongman with an idiosyncratic taste for low interest rates undermines central bank independence?

Amen! The problems with the birds (uncreative pedestrian offensive play) were obvious from week 1, and he made zero effort to adjust. That's on the HC.
Potentially unpopular opinion: I’d move on from Sirianni faster than I would from Lafleur.

MLF also screwed up the clock, but Packers were majorly affected by injuries.

What’s Nick’s excuse?

Nazis are indecent to Jews, and in return Jews are indecent to Nazis. Baffling that this putz sees those as being morally equivalent.

Is this man incapable of moral outrage? Can he not feel the heartbeat quicken in the presence of injustice, or is his very soul composed of this word salad pap?
It’s not even so much about “sane” vs. “insane” anymore, as it so often was circa 2020. The fundamental split today is between the *decent* and the *indecent.* It is monstrous to desire, excuse, sanitize, whitewash avoidable killing even of one’s perceived foes.

They won't have the numbers to occupy the nation and force everyone to comply, and that's why they're engaged in such an aggressive show of force. They're hoping we all get cowed into submission and do their work of suppression ourselves.

Once again, no.

The mantra remains "fuck you, make me."

The tragic death of Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year old mother fatally shot by ICE, shows that ICE can’t be reformed and must be abolished.

I’ll be introducing the Abolish ICE Act as a step toward justice, accountability, and humanity in our immigration policy.

Time to melt ICE.

Our whole society is based on car ownership. Is it even possible to change that?
Cars are essential to American life. They’re also toxic for the environment, humans, and society, these authors say.

This is one of the reasons I never want to leave a truly walkable community. Walking? Kicks ass. Walking and stopping by a nice lil coffee shop on a whim? Next level.
this is like some old man posting but i’m feeling a little under the weather today and so my exercise this morning is just a long walk and you know what activity rocks? taking a walk.
