99% of the population doesn’t know what a Board of Trustees is. They think universities are run by the faculty. Which is like thinking line cooks at McDonald’s are making corporate decisions.
Boards of Trustees ***LIKE*** the Trump demands. They ***AGREE*** with them.

They like the idea of putting the screws on activist, lefty, and Muslim students. They like the idea of a whiter student body and conservative curriculum. They want these things and think $200 million is a fair price.

Was folgte war extrem traumatisierend.

Since, in the context of this NYT article, the lack of a unitary among method among historians came up, I’m gonna try to explain - to myself as much as you all - what the historical method is. 1/
We do have a method and ethos though, it’s literally called the historical method, and while there are many ways in which to follow it I don’t think it has changed fundamentally. And part of it is about source criticism, intersubjectivity and transparency, all things that AI famously lacks.

The danger right now is not just that Schengen collapses, but that it transforms into a stable system of racialized mobility where freedom of movement is still guaranteed for white (passing) people but there remains a hard border for minorities.
It is peak “Brussels Bubble” for the EU to celebrate 40 years Schengen rather than address that Schengen is “melting before our eyes.”

Really important story - army officials asked soldiers to identify themselves if they don't agree with Trump's politics that way he'd get only supportive soldiers in uniform during his political rally on base. Heavier soldiers were also barred from participating.

As Trump viciously attacked his perceived political foes, he whipped up boos from the gathered troops directed at California leaders, including Gov. Gavin Newsom.

This article in the Financial Times is encouraging US citizens to move to Europe. There are so many layers to it but the underlying vibe is “not all of you”. “Fortress Europe, so unwelcoming to people from poor countries, keeps one gate permanently open for Americans”. Quiet part, out loud.

Calibrating acceptable criticism to “win influence” is fine for strategists but, made into a general rule, it has had a disastrous effect on public discourse by reducing what is happening to its potential polemical value. It means everyone is operating more or less openly in bad faith, all the time.
The online left has this very strange idea that attacking *Barack Obama* is a good way to win influence inside the Democratic coalition
