A beautifully modest post from one of the most respected academic researchers in this field
The UK government proposes to lower the voting age to 16 #vote16 This is a landmark moment for all the young people (+ some older ones) who campaigned for this for years. It's been a privilege to work & do research with young people on #VotesAt16 in Scotland and Wales www.jrrt.org.uk/evidence-and...

@chuebner.bsky.social & I are feeling the strong buzz at a #VotesAt16 event organised by @politicsproject.bsky.social in London with lots of youth activists working to make #Vote16 a huge success. We're excited to share international insights from @dpart.bsky.social & @uoe-sps.bsky.social work.

Having researched #Vote16 for 13 years, knowing the evidence and, crucially, meeting so many fantastic young people, I am very happy that #VotesAt16 will become reality across the UK! I hope that our research (@chuebner.bsky.social) has been useful to some.

16- and 17-year-olds will be able to vote in all elections as part of changes including easier voter registration and a crackdown on foreign interference

To find Synergy between economic and climate policy, the new German government must make the positive impacts of the green transition visible in communities and increase citizens’ disposable income.

In this @greeneujournal.bsky.social piece, using @dpart.bsky.social work, I discuss why framing economic discussions, esp. about the climate transition, as "MORE OR LESS STATE" is a red herring and focussing on "HOW" will enable better public engagement.

One again, this is simply not true.

Non-UK origin employeea have (slightly) higher median earnings than UK-origin ones -and the gap has if anything widened (slightly) recently.

This is so tragic. How often do researchers have to repeat the same thing? YOU CANNOT BEAT THE POPULIST-/FAR-RIGHT BY ADOPTING THEIR NARRATIVES. Tons of studies show that doing so only helps "the original". Instead of scapegoating migrants (often against evidence), fix people's material problems!

The most poignant exposition of public sentiment in the UK and why the current government will not manage to change this unless they take a totally different approach. A brilliant but hard-hitting piece.

Genuinely confused why everyone (i.e. some people in Westminster bubble) is aghast at the idea of a freeze to PIP rates but fairly chill at the idea of preventing c600,000 people being entitled to PIP in the first place, which will save far more money (i.e. be a larger cut to household incomes).
