Charles Dickens: It was the best of cups, it was the worst of cups, it was the cup of wisdom, it was the cup of foolishness, it was the mug of Light, it was the beer stein of Darkness

Hello all: It is with a heavy heart that I remove my Starter Pack of "Trustworthy Mesopotamian Copper Ingot Merchants Within the City-State of Ur."

I have been informed about some pretty unfortunate oversights on my part and ultimately platformed some creators who should not have been platformed.

Also, new folks, please know that when it comes to trolls, jerks, chuds and other undesirables here in the sky, we subscribe to the idea of “Don’t Engage, Just Block.” The block function is superpowered and expunges them entirely from your timeline. They hate it! Block with wild abandon! Don’t wait!

I have fond memories of going with my mom as a kid when she voted; back when they still used the cool mechnical voting machines with the curtain, the levers you'd flip to make your selections, and then the big lever you'd pull to record the ballot.

... voted 1st time on those same machines in '96.
After turning 18 two decades ago, my mother marched me to the polling place to cast a midterm election vote, and I have missed one election since.

Vote by example.
Parents often bring their kids to the polls, and my favorite thing is when they let their kids push the big paper ballots into the vote readers — which of course they are always very excited to do. A love of democracy is something that needs to be passed down through the generations!

TIL: rice cookers know when rice is done because water boils at a constant temperature, so an increase in temp means the rice is done.

This will be my contribution to all small talk this week; better than talking about the weather :-)

(Feel free to share a better-than-small-talk fact in return)

I was just remembering that whole M&M kerfuffle the other day - I don't even know what brought it to mind - and was thinking "you know, that was pretty weird."
republicans have been the party of normalcy my entire life, like when they spent days mad because the green m&m stopped wearing heels

So this whole Bluesky thing is interesting, I’m surprised how quickly I was able to rebuild a substantial chunk of my network here.

Not sure about this “skeets” thing though, I feel like calling them skytales would’ve been cooler and still could be abbreviated as “skeets” 😂
