Australia recorded ZERO cases of cervical cancer in women under 25 for the first time since they started tracking the cancer in the 80s.

This is the power of vaccines.

The HPV vaccine is extremely effective at preventing cancer.

Viruses can be oncogenic. Get your vaccines and protect yourself!
newsGP - Australia set for world-first cervical cancer elimination
Vaccination programs have played a key role, and GPs remain ‘instrumental’ in boosting screening rates to reach the 2035 target.

Software utilities, I think, must be treated the same way: regulated (including price) and operated under oversight. Otherwise, they're just a robber-baron monopoly with a stranglehold on the economy.

My favourite thing about LLMs at the moment is they’re so hellbent on generating stuff that if you ask it to make a plan before it codes, after a few iterations of refining the plan it just starts writing the code in the plan under “add this code”.

“It’s impossible to reboot Bond” says production team who decided Bond first got his licence to kill in the 21st Century, as Daniel Craig, then got incredibly old within two films and was being put out to pasture, but also had Sean Connery’s 1960s car.

It’s Bond. Just do whatever the fuck you like.

For this week's @theobserveruk.bsky.social I've written about one of my favourite topics: the productivity of the public sector, how it's measured, why it tends to grow less quickly than productivity in the private sector, and what it means for policy.

Deeper in the weeds than I’ve ever been building components in code for our design system and absolutely loving it.

Amazon just announced 14,000 layoffs. Its CEO made over $40M last year.

UPS announced 48,000 layoffs. Its CEO made over $24M last year.

Intel announced 20,000 layoffs. Its new CEO's pay package is valued at nearly $69M.

This is what I mean when I say the system is rigged.

i’m sick of white men with bad opinions controlling open source

if you are a maintainer of an OSS project and you also are not a fascist, reach out if you need design support from world-class design talent.

i will either do it myself or find a friend that isn’t a fascist to help out.

As an immigrant in Copenhagen, a British citizen, a child of immigrants, a grandchild of immigrants and refugees, and fuck it, a person with a heart, DHH can still get fucked.

As a friend of people who left that company, I’m not surprised.

I’m sorry but D gets Calabria, Greece, Turkey, Lebanon, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, China, and Japan. And Sydney. There’s no contest.

G gets an honourable mention mainly for Mexico and Morocco.
For the rest of your life, you can only eat food from one of these regions. Which do you choose?

It's not just that they don't get these messages of grief and condemnation from British politicians.

Whenever it gets above 25 degrees in Northern Europe it’s a great time to think about stereotypes of people from warm countries. Because everyone here is like “I can’t do anything it’s impossible my brain doesn’t work”

Getting anything done in the tropics is impressive.

This kind of wilful misunderstanding is what fuels bubbles.
Cannot believe that OpenAI is valued ~the same (at $300B) as Coca Cola ($303B)

Just reflecting on the capital and time it required to physically get Coke brands to every corner of the world, much of the world consuming it daily

And how quick OpenAI did the same, digitally. Software is incredible
