I never did an intro so...

Hi! I'm a software designer based in SF. I've been around the block a few times and you've probably used some of my work at Pinterest, Figma, and most recently Slack.

Right now I spend my time working on @maitsu.co, an app for building habits and hobbies with friends.

This is one of the worst, most horrifying exposures we have ever seen. It is hard to overstate how bad the things that people are using tools like for are, and it's insane to pretend like these tools are anything other than nonconsensual porn machines

i want to have sympathy for bikes as the one true solo form of transportation, but a bicyclist ran a red bike light from a protected, separate bike lane when cars had the green at a protected right turn and i can’t help but think you can’t outbuild Darwin

Trying here first: Are any of you geologists, rock nerds, or very knowledgable about natural gas? I am eventually looking for someone to occasionally consult with (yes, paid) for a project I'm working on.

More tales from the portfolio mines:
- If you put images on your site, there should be a lightbox or gallery to view them. I'm not going to go out of my way to see them at full res, so if they're tiny and I can't see details, I will just scroll past.

- Please stop using the typeface Redaction

3 years ago today, Riot Games offered me a job making more money than I ever thought I’d make in my life. I had 19 interviews over 2.5 months to get it. Partner and I were moving to LA for it. I put in notice at my job and apartment.

2 weeks later they rescinded the offer due to “headcount issues”.

They rounded a bunch of random Venezuelans with tats and pretended they were in tren de aragua, then started blowing up random Venezuelan boats they claim “carried drugs,” in order to slowly groom their base into supporting a full ground war on Venezuela that was always about oil
Whole bunch of stuff beginning to make a lot of sense.

And if you’re not being serious, people are going to stop taking you and your platform seriously. If we can’t look around at where we are and agree that the usual milquetoast white liberal bullshit is no longer serving us, then I don’t even know what we’re doing here.

If people like Singal get to continue spewing their vile bullshit, then banning Sarah and link protects nobody. Like zero people. If this is the outcome of you supposedly anguishing over these policies? And you go home at night actually thinking you did something? You are not being serious.

Like what is the point of going out of your way to sacrifice people like Sarah and Link if it doesn’t even enable you to get at people like Singal? Don’t can’t pretend you care about inciting violence and then utterly fail to actually protect against the worst perpetrators.
It doesn’t really change anything about my view. We need to stop whining about hard it is and look at the outcomes. If these outcomes are the best we can do, then we haven’t actually solved a problem. We’re just pissing people off for no reason.

The reality is that your judgment has to be rooted in your values. That's what's going to determine what you reward and what you punish. And if you're not clear on your values, then they will emerge clearly through your actual actions. In short, Link is banned, Jesse Singal is not. So now we know.

Don't just think about the price. Consider how much you'll love wearing the garment, which will be about finding a manufacturer that produces things to your taste. A $100 hoodie worn for a decade is cheaper than a $40 hoodie you replace in a year.

As usual, the key is to buy less, buy better.

Valve's announcements today are giving me extreme FOMO from the time they reached out to me to work there mid-pandemic and I said no since I'd just bought a house and they required relocation to Seattle 🥲

Valve is making a console. The Steam Machine, a sleek box with the guts of a mid-range PC that runs SteamOS, will arrive in early 2026. Prices TBD, but unlike the failed Steam Machine initiative from a decade ago, this is Valve's own device. Big news www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
