I'm cynical but passionate and optimistic about the future. I'm into landscape fauna ecology especially in the arid and semi arid zones. 😁 PS not a huge fan of cat and puppy photos.
Not a huge fan of Snoopy, but this is a cracker (I have no idea if Schulz actually drew it).

I now live in a region. I’m shocked at the blokieness of many men. The sport, the drinking. Old guys. My other half is not like that.

Bugger. One of my favourite National Parks is under threat from a bushfire. It seems to always coincide with the tourist/holiday seasons. This is a globally recognised biodiversity hotspot. Unfortunately, bushfire is common during holiday/tourist seasons.

@georgetakei.bsky.social you may enjoy this. "What did Australians watch on Christmas Eve 1960".

What did Australians watch on TV on Christmas Eve 1960?
Every day of broadcasting has a story to tell. What were Australians watching on Christmas Eve 65 years ago? And why does it still matter today?

I find it incredibly difficult to write about my Jewishness. I didn't want to write this, but I did.

We need to re-embrace complexity and nuance in thinking about and discussing the Jewish future.
Holding complexity amidst catastrophe

After seeing Ley’s atrocious rant today, it is as well to remember this is the party John Howard destroyed projecting internal division out into the world. It’s ugly and dangerous, aided and abetted by an equally broken media, but it isn’t winning them any friends.

Not the Bondi Jewish community but payed actors from the Australian Jewish Association which is a few ultra-conservative nationalist extremists who claim to be a voice for the community. Their Wikipedia page is eye-opening as it is disturbing - easy to mistake for a front for right wing terrorists.
Unbecoming from the Bondi Jewish community

So as everyone kind of knew, when Chris Minns talked about cracking down on protests and gatherings, he really meant specifically pro-Palestine and anti-mass-murder protests: racist, white nationalist protests (probably attended by neo-nazi anti-semites) are completely fucking fine

I'm home in Perth for the Christmas break and I've had some stomach churning conversations about... everything.

Progressive, empathetic and just voices need to be SO MUCH LOUDER right now.

This is my last 'news' newsletter for the year.

Every “journalist” who is helping the hard right anti-immigrant Liberal Party use a terror attack to spread fear and hatred and to undermine the Labor government should hang their heads in shame. We know News Corp exists to run these campaigns, but what’s the ABC’s excuse?
