have had to tell a few people that non-binary people can be masc-presenting. that this kind of gatekeeping disqualifies a lot of amab bodies. this kind of discussion puts qualifiers on who gets to be non-binary and it's gross.
I knew we were going to run into issues with people discussing gender when it comes to the casting of Murderbot, and here I am explaining to supposed allies that just because we as the audience know the actor is a cis man doesn’t mean Murderbot the fictional character is presenting as a man.

ppl who havent read the books complaining about murderbot looking like a human as if that is not one of the main points of its character. It's "human-passing" for a narrative purpose and it has a lot of issues with its own personhood. Read the books!!!

God yes this. Androgyny is not a prerequisite for being agender.
I will not get into it here bc social media is where nuance goes to die. But I think there's room to both be disappointed in Murderbot casting *and* to recognize that nonbinary folks (like me) can look any damn way we want and I wish cis ppl would stop saying we "present" as one thing or another.
