Closing out this shitty mess of a year with a major home repair is really so absurd that it just feels … correct? Anyway fuck it at least my teachers salary is super high and everything in Hollywood is amazingly functional for Chris
Already gearing up for 2026 by kicking it off with mid-five figure home waterproofing estimates! Fuck I feel alive! Yes!

I actually think I find Bruce Willis SO attractive in this movie not just because he is the epitome of masculinity but also because he’s so well-lit
DIE HARD has great lighting. Look at those blues and skin tones enshrouded in darkness, we got a light blasting through smoke in the next room to give you the contrast; you wanna know why I dunk on modern blockbusters? This is why, the visual poverty, the fear of lighting a set properly

Okay, thought brought on by Scrooge’s dressing gown, but: is Leo’s bathrobe in OBAA a signal that he is a sort of contemporary Scrooge of revolution, one who has to grapple with ghosts of his past, present, and future in order to see the light?
Merry Christmas Eve, if you celebrate!

It’s cool that last year at this time LA was about to go up in flames and this year it’s about to flood. A very non-apocalyptic place to live.

a sequel:

cis people on the skyline are genuinely more distressed by the trump-kennedy center than the fact that congress said a second time in 2 days, “no, really this kind of child’s healthcare should be banned & criminalized” & 46/47 non-GOP senators won’t commit to “i will oppose this.”

First semester down at a new school. Feels like an accomplishment. Gonna go take a walk and listen to some birds.

Between whatever awful bullshit happens at this HHS press conference and the Senate vote on H.R. 498, it’s gonna be a long day for people who believe in the absolute necessity of access to gender-affirming care.

I don’t love being the spouse who’s not on social media or the news all day and then comes home and just says “what” over and over again as my husband recites the litany of bad things that happened that day

okay but why does teaching at the end of the semester with a pretty mild cold feel the same as attempting to teach in September with the flu

Please sign and call your reps.
The House is looking to vote TOMORROW on 2 bills that would criminalize gender-affirming care for trans youth. Please sign the ACLU's petition opposing these bills.

Protect Trans Care Now
As wave after wave of extreme measures to criminalize and strip trans people of rights and safety continue, tell Congress to act.

There's nothing to say about Rob Reiner that hasn't already been said. But: the range! A movie my kids have seen multiple times (& that I quoted nonstop in elementary school), one of the best romantic comedies, one of the best Stephen King adaptations, one of the best courtroom dramas. Incredible.

Okay, everything is really bad in the world, so I am retreating by syllabus planning while drinking spiked eggnog. It has somewhat helped. But. Why is it so hard to be a person in 2025.

As creative people know, 2025 has been a hell of a time to be a creator. @ifyoucantwell.bsky.social has really been through the wringer this year and has nevertheless produced some truly incredible things. So proud to see both Out of Alcatraz and Red Shirts on this list. Buy them & read them?
It’s very nice and an hour to have two books on this list. Of course it’s because of the incredible teams both books had. Happy to be included.
