One of my last semesters teaching in higher ed was when I was attacked once by a student who accused me of having a “liberal bias” in the classroom bc I told her that her topic — that college campus hecklers should be allowed on campuses — was not appropriate for the assignment
So yeah, this is fundamentally about trans people and that cannot be elided, but the ways in which junior faculty are targeted and disposed of, while academic jobs are increasingly precarized, and political grandstanders seek to influence academic governance are fucking terrifying for everyone.

Fuck I'm so sad Tom Stoppard passed. He was one of my fav playwrights, I was obsessed with his work in my youth.
My fav play of his is Jumpers, about an astronaut committing murder outside of any legal jurisdiction. Brilliantly explores how people can talk themselves into believing monstrous shit.

Too many people see pirating as a form of protest. And it's not. At all. Boycotting is a form of protest. If I ran up in Target and started stealing things, that's not sending a message about Target's practices.

I have often seen masculinity, conventional version, as a constant renunciation, in return for corrosive power. All the things you're not allowed to like, enjoy, do, say, wear, but (metaphorically speaking) this straitjacket comes with a gun.
So many men go through life like that. You can play poker because it's right-coded, you can't enjoy fruity alcoholic drinks because they're women-coded, you can't lick an ice cream cone because it's gay-coded. All day, every day, choosing and judging things based on coding for narrow norms.
