Academic, boulderer and cat dad.
Young people call me a trans elder but I'm literally just some guy.
An interesting thing to witness is the mass realisation of Sedgwick’s critique of a hermeneutics of suspicion, that, unlike on crime dramas, the public uncovering of damning evidence does not smoothly lead to justice, and often serves to further terrorise with the accompanying sense of powerlessness

See my thesis for research evidence of why a social media ban would be terrible for LGBTQIA youth.

TLDR- when you belong to a geographically dispersed minority that your family don’t belong to, might even be hostile to- social media is likely your only lifeline for identity work and community.
My PhD thesis “Waving and Drowning: UK Trans Youth Experiences of Social Media Affective Publics” is now available online.
It features a model of the emotional cycle of doomscrolling that I’m particularly proud of.

Brianna Ghey was targeted by classmates who knew her offline. Online, she made friends and a community, and was making content to help other trans kids like her.

This is a grieving mother pushing for legislation that would have further isolated her trans child, that is supported by transphobes.

This is literally what they do whenever a Black person is killed by police. No matter how solid the evidence is, they will keep pushing that lie, not just to poison the conversation and make sure the killer walks free, but to reassert the political idea that these people deserve to be killed.
The shooting is shocking enough but the government's response is off the charts when you consider that this incident is forensically documented on video.

The TLDR of the Streeting review is your quality of life doesn't matter so long as you are contributing to the economy and employment stats - which will exacerbate most MH conditions and increase suicide rates, which they don't care about either because the economy, stupid.

This. We do not deserve to be abandoned. We deserve the full throated support of people who claim to support us. Not the apologetic shuffle of "sorry, but it's hard!"
I think a lot of trans people go way too easy on organisations that choose to be complicit in our oppression. I believe this is due to internalised transphobia. We often don't think we're important enough for other people to care about our safety, wellbeing, and equitable involvement in society.

A solicitor, Andrew Milne has been bullying leaseholders across Sheffield into paying him extraordinary sums, with no legal basis.

Why hasn't the SRA stopped him? Because he's conducted an extraordinary campaign against the SRA. 180 complaints. Two judicial reviews.

Trying very hard to link transness with dangerous criminality is disgusting, but so is the following implication that only sane, well-behaved people should be allowed to transition, if any.

The only truly irreversible thing a trans child is likely to do is take their own life. "What if they do something irreversible?" actually means "theyre not allowed to make a decision!"

You cant undo or reverse any decision you make, you can simply change your mind later and handle the consequences

Saw a news report yesterday about children as young as 9 being given weight loss jabs on the NHS, and I think it shows just how utterly bullshit the “lack of research into long term impacts” excuse for banning puberty blockers for trans kids really was. It’s purely ideological.

This whole ICE nonsense quota based racist policing is so useful for illustrating so many Black civil rights concepts that people have been confused about for decades.

People used to ask me, "Why do Black folk cheer when they see a man successfully run from the cops? He's a criminal!"🤡

No.
ICE attempted
and failed to disappear a food delivery guy.
It needed to be scored.
