good time for a reintroduction?

once upon a time i was a phd candidate in poli sci. then i was a columnist for vice. then i was editor-in-chief of the independent. currently retraining as a psychotherapist, & finding my way back to writing for the public. (amateur standup too, but that's shameful.)
sorry everyone. i kept saying "environment minister chris tibbs" as a joke about the NL election outcome so this one's on me

about two weeks ago i got together with two friends and we went down through every district in the province and we couldnt see the liberals winning more than 15 seats. which seemed so unreasonable at the time that i just assumed we were extremely pessimistic and out of touch. anyway. we live in hell

it's dope as hell that the world builds 100 million cars per year and all that plastic, metal, glass and rubber eventually ends up like this

To be crystal clear: it's not about what the scientists "told CBC News", not just informed opinion. The science itself is very clear. You can question perhaps the degree of NL contribution to climate change, but it's fact that the oil from here is a contributor. Full stop. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
Wakeham says no link between N.L. wildfires, oil industry in campaign where climate change largely absent | CBC News
The 2025 provincial election is happening in the direct aftermath of one of the worst climate-related disasters in Newfoundland and Labrador’s recent history.

Twelve out of 40 MHAs elected since 2021 are landlords, a higher percentage than most provinces and an unknown fact to most Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. #nlpoli #Election2025

Seismic shift needed to address N.L. housing crisis, experts say – The Independent
Housing is a human right in Canada, yet unchecked rent hikes, Airbnb pressure, and landlord-lawmakers have left thousands in Newfoundland and Labrador one paycheck away from homelessness

for part 2/2 of my "NL Politics 101" series, I survey the breadth of newfoundland history to show that the reason all the problems keep repeating is because the party system hasn't changed since the last time it broke our democracy.

it doesn't have to be this way! theindependent.ca/commentary/a...

The whole discourse about whether the plagiarism machine is a person, has been poisoned by the fact that the people on one side of it have used the plagiarism machine to destroy their ability to think.

Can standard dichotomies like ‘left and right’, ‘nationalist and federalist’, or ‘populist and technocratic’ help us understand politics in the province? #nlpoli

this is something you just have to live with if you are even barely well-known online; people make up elaborate stories about you in their heads. it will always happen and you cannot give a shit about it, only stomp on it if they try to spread these weird tales to anybody you actually know.
its so strange to be a public figure. people build such elaborate mythologies around you. and im not even like, famous famous
