A single case of atypical #BSE has been confirmed on a farm in Essex today. The fast identification of the disease is testament to a robust veterinary surveillance system that is effective in detecting potential risk.

In the late 1980s, before anyone knew how Abeta was made, Wisniewski hypothesized that microglia made plaques because TEM showed amyloid in communication with microglial ER. Something to this I suppose? Maybe endosomes, not ER? I’m not a cell biologist. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Prion spongiosis: the sponge-like appearance of #prion affected brain tissue when viewed under a microscope. Resulting from the formation of tiny, round vacuoles (holes) in the neuropil (the dense network of neurons and glial cells) and within neuronal cell bodies.

12th November is CJD Awareness Day.

Creutzfeld Jacob Disease is a prion disease. A protein misfolds in the brain which causes ongoing damage. It is 100% fatal and most people die within six months of onset of symptoms.
