Paleontologists used to think that dino skin impressions required rapid burial, soon after death, to be preserved.
But now we know there’s not a single pathway to exceptional preservation, and desiccation often plays a role. Look at this chunk of hadrosaur tail, so dried the skin shrunk to bone. 🧪

Oil geologists, if there are any on here: was the oil at Spindletop Jurassic in age (I know the salt dome it came out of was) or did it seep up from the Paleozoic? I haven't been able to find a clear answer on this, and I'd really like to know!

As the name suggest, this new dinosaur species exhibits new integumentary structures never seen before in these dinosaurs, a wide array of small, medium and -relatively- large spikes on the body except of the tail.
