Something I noticed a long time ago at work: people in positions of authority adopt a brief, clipped, ungrammatical, no-punctuation writing style. It demonstrates that 1. They’re busy, and 2. They don’t have to jump through hoops to impress people. Took me a while to get my head around that.

Damn.

Lots of great stuff in his career: Ran, Sword of Doom, Harakiri, High and Low, Kwaidan, and more.

For an era of Japanese cinema, he was one of Those Guys.

With innovative camera tracking tools and an emotional story, does Goodnight Universe manage to blend these two elements together successfully or did it make for a messy experience.

You may know Eizin Suzuki for being one of the big City Pop illustrators. If you've never seen his work directly, you have seen it referenced in anime. Cars and surf boards, lush love letters to a surreal, hyper saturated America..

One of the things that was more clear when I read the book is that the events are narrated by an elderly Mattie. It’s her relating the story of “here’s how I put all these knuckleheads in their place, as the smartest and bravest kid in the world”… and that made it all even funnier to me.
One of the great pleasures of True Grit is the faces everyone makes as they realize nobody has ever verbally destroyed them before like 14-year old Mattie Ross.

Some inappropriately creepy golf content - Sente Mini Golf (1986) has DIP switches that add photos of missing children to the attract mode (and to enable a "LOCATED" message per kid). These profiles were replaced with new ones in updated ROMs.

Modern operators seem to leave them on, a lot. 😨
