Just came across this monster red oak next to an abandoned mansion in Trenton. Over 6 feet in diameter (19 ft in circumference). Not big enough to be NJ state champ, but would be pretty high on the NJ big tree database. May have to submit!

One common defect in urban trees are stem-girdling roots, where, rather than growing outwards, a root will wrap around its own trunk, limiting growth and nutrient flow, and eventually destabilizing the entire tree.

Sadly, there will be no Dodgers fans celebrating and no Jays fans talking about next year, as the entire collective fan bases of both teams perished as a result of watching the most stressful game of all time.

I’m not particularly impressed with Mikie Sherril so far, but this guy’s such a fucking fraud. Punt him into the ocean.

Why Housing Density Has Become a Key Issue in the New Jersey Governor's Race
A new law in New Jersey requires cities to plan for a share of the state’s housing needs. The Republican candidate for governor is tapping into local frustration about it.

The one thing I know for sure is that the exact things that did and didn’t work in the last election cycle will have the exact same effect in the next one. That’s why our current politics are so predictable and stable.
I asked Chris Murphy if he privately talks to Dem colleagues about why they don't sound the alarm loudly. His answers were depressing. Dems tell him they don't want to be "alarmist" or that "democracy" didn't work in 2024, so they want to stick to health care. 5/

On the day the senile President told assembled military leaders he was going to unleash them on the American people, my sub-replacement-level Congressman did this shit
Amid the chaos in Washington, I introduced legislation to make Oct 1 National Animal Rescue Day. Even in crazy times, we can do good by adopting, fostering, and supporting our local shelters.

Just took my son to the last Phillies regular season game of the year. I have lots of good stories from the game, but alas, I failed to get express written consent from the Phillies and Major League Baseball, so I’ll be keeping them to myself.

This man is absolutely not up to the challenge that’s facing him.
The Trump administration’s threat to deploy troops in Portland is unlawful.
Here’s a thought.

I’m working on a street tree inventory and have mapped hundreds of ashes dying due to EAB infestation. Every once in a while I find one that’s so far completely unaffected, like the one on the left.
