Hello police? The groomers sent my dog home with a bow tie that is ugly and does not suit him??? Are we a nation of laws or not?

Ok this is an ibm press release so take it with some grains of salt. But cmos fab for superconducting qubits could be a big deal. Right now every superconducting qubits made “by hand” — by a person running machines. If you want uniformity and high yield then cmos it is.

I’m sick and the news is kind of fucking me up so I painted this picture of a baby elephant out solving mysteries. Now I’m going to steal some of my kids’ Halloween candy and go to bed good night

A little less than a year ago, a large team of cosmologists reported evidence that dark energy (which drives the acceleration of the expansion of the Universe) evolves over time. This made a huge splash but has also been viewed with healthy skepticism. Today they report that evidence has weakened. 🧪
The Dark Energy Survey Supernova Program: A Reanalysis Of Cosmology Results And Evidence For Evolving Dark Energy With An Updated Type Ia Supernova Calibration
We present improved cosmological constraints from a re-analysis of the Dark Energy Survey (DES) 5-year sample of Type Ia supernovae (DES-SN5YR). This re-analysis includes an improved photometric cross...

Measurement of correlated charge noise in superconducting qubits at an underground facility - Nature Communications
Ionizing radiation can cause simultaneous charge noise in multi-qubit superconducting devices. Here, the authors measure space- and time-correlated charge jumps in a four-qubit system in a low-radiati...

I didn’t post when our old dog died because there’s already enough stuff to be sad about in this dumb ol world. But after a suitable mourning period I can’t tell you what a relief it is to have a dog in the house again.

He just came to check on me in my office and then wandered off.

Genuinely funny to me, the way they make disposable diapers.

“Boss, these adhesive tabs aren’t sticky enough.”

“Well have you tried irradiating them with an electron beam?”

“Boss the diaper liner isn’t absorbent enough.”

“Well, have you tried irradiating them with an electron beam?”

Every year or so somebody extremely famous stands up in public and says we don't know what magnets are or how they work.

Yes we do. We fucking do know how magnets work. I'm going to be so disappointed in all of you if this one takes hold.

Physicist Lise Meitner was born #OTD in 1878. She discovered fission in uranium with Otto Frisch, and was the first person to understand both its mechanics and implications. A thread! (1/n)
