Well, Matt certainly graduated from 'oh, who's he? The other Irish one?' in this episode.

Great, thank you, but please don't do it if you decide you just want to bin this off and never think of it again!

I'll be interested to know how long it does take, so do please update it you feel able to.

(And I'm so sorry it's such a shit experience. If it helps, any complaint is helpful in trying to get change into this system)

I highly recommend @drsoandsoresearch.bsky.social - she transcribed the diary of Joseph Bell for me while I was writing SLEUTH-HOUND. I think she's the only person in the world who can read his atrocious handwriting! She's a brilliant researcher, and she just passed her viva (congrats, Dr. So!)

I liked what I saw of both programmes (especially the titanic one, which was very nicely done).

But from experience of being in place that held some of the Ripper letters, these are topics that can lead people down some unfortunate rabbit holes.

BBC running Ripper-adjacent Victorian murder mystery doc followed by a Titanic sinking reconstruction in one evening?

Thoughts and prayers for my colleagues manning the enquiry services out there, it'll be a week.

In this case, is it because Delta Force were just so spectacularly burned by the Chuck Norris film that they swore off any further appearance in popular culture?

(By that logic though, you'd think the Seals would have felt at least a twinge of regret with Charlie Sheen, so...)

The temperature is due to drop below freezing tonight, and emergency accommodation is open across the capital for those sleeping rough.

Just been reminded - through pretty shit family circumstances - that seven years ago I spent New Year's Eve with my dying grandmother. My sister and mother were measuring out drugs for a future that likely wouldn't come. I was on tea duty.

It was a great night.

We laughed.

We cried.

My father in law always regarded 'the Brits' very positively, as they gave him opportunities in the NI civil service he would never have got under the the previous regime.

Not sure what he would have made of this shower.

My in-laws are Northern Ireland Catholic, and they regard this real-time validation of everything Republican politics has ever said about the UK both as extremely validating (for them) and a bit strange (in it's strategic stupidity).
*pinches bridge of nose* Tom can you just tell me the full name of the UK real quick
Maybe Brits’ energy prices are going up so much because the suppliers are having to spend a fortune fixing gas leaks in right-wing houses.

I love it when the guys doing the work on the material I look after understand the issues around it.
Indeed, plus how much of 'the archive' will never BE digitised. We cope as a profession with constant massive "data loss" all the time and that's purely in analogue terms. Imagining that today the digital can capture the historical is utter nonsense. This is likely the case for many decades to come.
Im pretty sure they neither know nor care how much of the global historical record is not digitized
