Seeing some beautiful photos of aurorae tonight, so here's a reminder that other planets get them, too!

This is Saturn, with aurorae visible at both poles in this UV image from Hubble's Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph, taken in October 1997 when the planet was 1.3 billion km away.

I never really paid much attention to this band, but a dirt cheap copy of this turned up at the flea market the other week, and half the reason I bought it was the cover.

My senator may be useless trash, but my rep knows the deal:
Americans have endured the pain of the longest government shutdown in history for a “deal” that guarantees nothing on healthcare.

If Republicans wanted to vote to extend subsidies, they would’ve done it already.

Capitulating is unacceptable.

JUST IN: A bipartisan Senate deal has been reached to fund the government through January 30 and to set a vote on an Affordable Care Act bill in December, according to a source familiar with the matter. https://cnn.it/47zobyt

I had to look up the number of the bar in the white pages of the phone book, of course.
I did this exactly once, sometime in the 90s. I correctly guessed the bar my coworker was at around 8 on a Friday to tell him the start time for the following day had changed by an hour.

Me: is ___ ____ there?

Bartender: Yeah, he's right here.
Was it really a thing to like call a bar and ask them to connect you to someone? That was a real thing people did?
