The Phillies released Nick Castellanos.

Castellanos acknowledges on Instagram that one of the reasons Rob Thomson benched him in Miami in June is that he brought a beer into the dugout after being pulled from the game for defensive purposes.

ICYMI - I wrote about the winners and losers from MLB's offseason for NBC Sports.

The Orioles were in the winners category even before last night's signing of Chris Bassitt.

Nicely done by the Orioles.

Solid group with Zach Eflin working his way back and Tyler Wells, Cade Povich, and Brandon Young among the depth:

Bradish
Rogers
Baz
Bassitt

With all the hamate injury news the past 24 hours, I looked into some data back in 2022 when the shortstop who shall not be named fractured his and found these data points. Draw your own conclusions with Carroll, Holliday, and likely Lindor

Zack Wheeler kept his rib that he had removed during thoracic outlet decompression surgery. It’s in his closet at his house.

Worry a little bit about the impact on his power, but this situation could certainly be worse.
Carlos Mendoza announced that Francisco Lindor is having surgery on his hamate today.

Right-hander Colin Selby has shoulder inflammation and is beginning throwing. He’ll likely not be ready for opening day

The good news is that Lindor should be ready for the season regardless. But as noted in the blurb, some players often have initial decline in their power output.

Two news items from David Stearns just now....

1) Francisco Lindor is being evaluated for a stress reaction in his left hamate bone. Could need surgery, which would take around six weeks to return. Would still have a chance to be ready for Opening Day.

2) Juan Soto will play LF this season
