Hi, I'm Danny Day, a game designer/programmer/bizdev. In 2005 I accidentally started South Africa's largest game development community. I built QCF Design in 2007, we won an IGF award for Desktop Dungeons in 2011.
I talk about BJJ often and inline skate so well that I met Tony Hawk.

Kid was exploring on the Switch and installed Animal Crossing. Just trying to deal with the horrific way it does menus reminded me how viscerally I hate that fucking game. It *insists* on wasting your time at every turn, for no benefit.

Waiting for the class action suits about removing functionality as punishment for disabling unwanted AI intrusions. Pretty sure our Consumer Protection Act might be stretched to cover this, but ofc global south so why should Google give a shit?
FYI: turning off "Smart features" also turns off spell check and the promotions and social tabs. And more.

In effect, a lot of traditional tools in gmail are switched off if you don't let them upload your contracts, love notes, and sad messages to your friends into their plagiarism machine.
If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

Layer "kabaddi kabaddi kabaddi kabaddi" over all temp audio.
Audio (sound effects, music, and dialogue) has a weird relationship with temp assets, mostly because of issues revolving around human psychology.

Problem #1: How do you communicate that something you're hearing is temp?
The annoying thing about the "oh we left a placeholder" generative AI slop excuse is that that is EXACTLY NOT how you should be using placeholders. Anything "not obviously terrible with a panicked hurried half-awake glance" is getting shipped.

This thing took so much work, from so many people - RPGs have so many little working parts, and we did so much to try to make this world feel alive. The team is just vibrating right now, seeing how this all goes, but for now it's great to just have it out there, in people's hands.

Weirds me out that responding to the "why are you wearing a mask" question with "I was on an international flight recently" gets approving nods. Like, folks know it's a good idea, they just don't want to do it themselves.
