“The debt of gratitude Australians owe CSIRO for Aeroguard alone can never be repaid. Which is why it’s so alarming to watch its funding – and its people – bleed away,” writes Ebony Bennett, Deputy Director at The Australia Institute.

WorkCover has rejected her claim! And we just had an inquiry in Qld to find out why we can’t recruit/retain volunteers…
Last April when I was on deployment, I met Cassie from Rockhampton RFS

Cassie volunteers 4 multiple community orgs, helped Thargomindah school replace some supplies, she's amazing!

She recently broke her back on the fireground & needs a bit of support

Take a moment to consider the 250 million people who have been forcibly displaced by climate disasters over the past 10 years…70,000 per day, on average.

If you aren’t one of these unfortunate people, I invite you to consider what you can do to help one or more of them. They need us.

It’s actually #DisasterDisinformation , which is much, much worse.
Climate deniers getting ready to claim that climate change did not make the damage from Hurricane Melissa worse.

This is misinformation.
Climate change is making hurricanes more destructive

Last year, @michaelfwehner.bsky.social and Jim Kossin made the scientific case for a Cat6 cyclone. This week, Hurricane Melissa became the 6th storm in recorded history to smash through that threshold, with max winds of 216mph. And conditions leading to these storms are on the rise.

Every flood is followed by an outcry over building on flood prone land. And every subsequent flood shows that more homes have been built on flood prone land. Now that more land than ever before is flood prone, we really need to not put houses on flood prone land. Crisafulli is reckless.

Yikes. That's a 242 mph wind gust just measured inside Hurricane Melissa.
I've seen a lot of dropsondes over my years, and a peak wind of 210kt - even at the top of/just beyond the boundary layer - is wild to see. Might be up there in the ranks of all-time strongest dropsonde-measured gusts as well.
