Abysmal statement from Canada on the illegal US action in Venezuela.

It doesn’t matter how much you dislike Maduro, that doesn’t justify a violation of international law and the UN Charter. You can’t call on “all parties” to respect international law and not call out US lawlessness.
Please see my statement on the situation in Venezuela:

In 2022, I set a goal to read 100 short stories (I ended the year at 115) and to keep track on Twitter. In 2023, I read 91. Mid-2024, I left Twitter, ending the year at 92. I read 134 last year. Please recommend your best-loved individual short stories (not collections) in any genre.

This is a really good point that I had not run into before: these "creators" have no further insight into their alleged creation than the average audience member and that is why it cannot be called art (besides all the other obvious reasons).

Really enjoyed Bronson Pinchot’s narration of @jeffvandermeer.bsky.social Absolution. He nailed the weary, tortured tone of Old Jim and the frenetic energy of Lowry’s I’ll-fated drugged-out excursion into Area X.

Thankfully, most will never be in a position to act as Ahmed el Ahmed did to stop this horror, but we must all ‘confront hatred with the urgency & action it demands’ against those who face it: Jews, Palestinians, trans/queer/racialized/Indigenous ppl, immigrants, women, all whose humanity is denied.

I first encountered Asad Haider through Mistaken Identity and later had the privilege of being in his York Grad course on Social Transformation. He pushed all of us to think deeply, to struggle with ideas, his commitment to emancipatory politics was inspiring. RIP. www.legacy.com/us/obituarie...

Hundreds of Manitobans rallied, made phone calls, and emailed their MLAs to press Premier Kinew to keep his promise to fix rent rules and protect tenants’ homes. That paid off with this Throne Speech commitment. Now we keep up the pressure to ensure real changes happen soon and in full.
The Manitoba government promised to make the health-care system safer, take more steps to “Trump-proof” the economy and study how to slash grocery bills in Tuesday’s throne speech.
