The Kumutoto valley and stream in Wellington is mostly gone. There's one strip of lush creek side rainforest left next to the entry to the terrace tunnel. This is home to rare spiders and lizards.

The latest Cloudflare and Amazon outages have got me thinking about utilities. We can't build modern software without dependencies. The days of running entirely on the client are over, which I see as a good thing. The cost is that we rely on infrastructure.

Absolutely this. We live in an inner London neighbourhood - the bulk of the local traffic is coming in from outer London suburbs.
My most woke opinion is that cities should completely ignore suburban commuters and design the city we aspire to be. They’ll either begrudgingly commute in by car, mode shift, or be replaced by others in foot traffic

If only we could form some kind of nationwide governing body whose job was to collect money from us all and use it to fund things like critical health care. We could hold elections every 3 years on who governs us... And expect them to manage shared services for all.

But that is not enough. No.10 should never have been in a position to install Gibb in the first place. It shouldn't control the board membership, the DG appointment, or the purse strings. What's required is genuine independence for the BBC.

I’m hearing Lutfur Rahman is very close to achieving his manifesto pledge to create 1000 new car parking spaces in Tower Hamlets. Some have even come by taking space directly from the pavement. Unbelievable in this day and age.
