The funniest movie I saw last year - and possibly the most jawdropping - is now in cinemas in America. (Two weeks, NZ.)

Yes, it's based on a series. No, you don't need to have seen it, or know a damn thing. As Negativland used to say, copyright infringement is your best entertainment value.

I feel like there have been whole years, possibly decades, of America's history where this whole fiasco - the FAA shutting down an entire city's airport for ten days, without notifying the military or anyone else - could bring down the head of an agency. In 2026, it's a footnote in the day's news.

Invoking wealthy class solidarity to excuse sex crimes against children is sorta the Epstein Class in a nutshell
Bondi crashes out over Epstein: "The Dow is over 50,000 dollars! I don't know why you're laughing. You're a great stock trader as I hear, Raskin. The Dow is over 50,000 right now. The S&P at almost 7,000, and the Nasdaq smashing records. That's what we should be talking about."

What we are seeing, from the ICE protests to the Super Bowl reaction, is that MAGA is a vocal minority, and most people don't want to live under that.

Liberals and lefties need to overcome the Reagan Syndrome that convinced them they were not "real America." Stop treating 1980 like it was Vietnam.

Someone asked for non-English language bangers and the now late Ebo Taylor had a stack of them miles deep. Here's one in honor of the greatest passing.

Oh, this is a real heartbreaker. I was fortunate enough to see the legend a couple years ago in America, and anyone who traveled in my car for about a ten year period had an upwards of 30% chance of hearing LIFE STORIES, his Strut comp that basically lived in my CD player. (Down to 10% of late.)
Ebo Taylor, who did for Ghanaian music what his friend Fela Kuti did for Nigeria, has been called the greatest rhythm guitarist in history.

His son Kweku Taylor:
“The world has lost a giant, a colossus of African music, leaving behind an unmatched artistry legacy. Dad, your light will never fade.”

Nobody but @msicism.bsky.social does this kind of intellectual bridging work on a regular basis, opening green pastures and blowing minds.

Today's installment: the only review of a video game movie that discusses Michael Snow's WAVELENGTH at length, and contrasts Mike Judge with Yoko Ono.

Wellingtonians, if you're looking for the perfect capper to a long weekend, I recommend THE SICILIAN CLAN at the Roxy, 7.45 pm. Alain Delon! Jean Gabin! Lino Ventura! All in a five star (as rated by me) heist film by the underapprecaited Henri Verneuil.

Introduced some friends to FISH STORY yesterday as part of a long-promised programmed by me binge and for a couple of them it wasn't just the discovery of the day, but the discovery of the year. Might just make this an all FISH STORY all the time account until it gets fully reclaimed.
