Well, I know what I'm watching and/or rewatching the rest of the year. Just his work with Kobayashi would make him a titan. Ditto Kurosawa. And yet THE FACE OF ANOTHER was the first thing to spring to mind. And he has, like, 150 other films.

A NEW LEAF is a strong contender but everyone's heard of it, so that tips the scales to NIGHT IS SHORT, WALK ON GIRL, Masaaki Yuasa's wildly overlooked "one crazy night" anime that's drenched in young love, liquor, bibliophilia, crazy conspiracies, & just kept me smiling its entire bloody runtime.
What is the best movie not from this year that you’ve seen this year? Bonus points if you say why

If for some reason you haven't already heard the conceit for PLURIBUS, just go in knowing nothing and enjoy the most invigorating pilot in ages and ages.

A very good read that helped to clarify some inchoate ideas I had about these turbulent times.
Union man Tom Smucker, my friend for 57 years and upstairs neighbor for pushing 50, read a lot of books about the 2024 election and then wrote 4000 words about them. A politically savvy overview you shouldn't skip. And he melded some music in there too. www.firstofthemonth.org/author/tom-s...

ChatGPT is doing everything 80s parents thought heavy metal and D&D did and I wish this was hyperbole
Panera’s moderately caffeinated lemonade was loosely associated with 2 deaths before it was taken off market.
This article alone has 4 examples of ChatGPT encouraging young people to commit suicide, and OpenAI’s own public stats estimate over a million users discuss suicide with ChatGPT each week.

I fully believe in the corporate death penalty and believe we would be a better world if OpenAI lost its corporate charter and was forcibly dissolved.

Not sure if it's was intentional, but for a wine store veteran, it's Uncanny Valley stuff.
