This is personally frustrating because I was very involved in regional conversations in communities and with some experts after Harvey, and we all agreed that we need to make it easier for people to assess their risk profile here. This would have been an enormous step forward.

The high in DC today was just 21, coldest of the winter so far. Tomorrow’s high may even be lower, not even reaching 20!

I'll never come around to naming winter storms but I solidly back heralding them by category/WSSI. Solid messaging potential.

❄️🥶 Cat-4 winter storm hits tonight. About 5–9" snow near Beltway (more NW, less SE). Flip to sleet/ice Sunday. S MD? Ice + outages.

Travel could be near impossible during storm.

Freeze all week -- maybe till Groundhog Day.

Finalize prep. Stay safe. ❄️

When it comes to scientifically measuring snow with sleet, there is nuance and precision involved.

Measurements are taken every 6 hours at specific sites. The totals for any day or storm are the sums of those frequent observations. In this way, snow totals differ from snow depth. 🧵…

Better yet, disestablish all of DHS, and undo the nightmarish idiocies that we created in a panic 25 years ago. Reestablish the INS, get rid of ODNI, fix the damage from the Patriot Act, etc.
For the love of all that is decent and holy: abolish ICE

Does anyone have a higher-res version of this with legible fake town names? All I've seen since yesterday are blurry, pixelated versions.
Wait a minute...why is NWS throwing out genAI generated slop on their socials?

This is a horrible look and doesn't help keep people safe or aware of the forecast.

"What a year for the ultra wealthy. The world’s 500 richest people added a record $2.2 trillion to their collective fortunes in 2025’s… booming markets, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. And about a quarter of this year’s gains went to just eight billionaires.” — Bloomberg Morning Brief
