There’s deeper journalism out there, but I’m genuinely grateful that John Oliver keeps breaking down the basics in a way that can reach even those too depressed by the news or too distracted to dig deeper.
This week’s main story is about Benjamin Netanyahu, his time in and out of power in Israel, the extreme voices he’s allied with in his country, and one nifty trick to get John Oliver to do whatever you say. You have to watch the show to find out what it is, but yes, of course it involves horses.

Die SZ berichtet heute über einen klimapolitischen Wahnsinnsmove der Bundesregierung.
Sie will möglich machen, europäische Strafzahlungen wegen zu wenig Klimaschutz aus dem Topf zu bezahlen, der Klimaschutz finanzieren soll.

Wodurch weniger Geld für Klimaschutz da wäre.

Deutschland droht die Klimaziele zu verfehlen. Doch statt mehr Klimaschutz zu machen, will sie aus dem gleichen Topf CO₂-Zertifikate kaufen.

Susmita presented our paper with Danilo Dessi and @dietzestefan.bsky.social, introducing the TeleScope dataset.

The dataset contains the message forwards across 70K channels, allowing the study of misinformation and hate speech spreading.
