I did it. Happy Book Birthday to my 9th novel THE SILENCED.

THE SILENCED imagines what would happen if a girl explores an abandoned reform school & comes home haunted by the ghost of a teen who didn’t survive her stay at The Farm.

It’s a horror novel tackling real world issues-Welcome to The Farm!

This might be my favorite photo from last night. @dianawallachauthor.bsky.social sent me a few shots of us cracking up during the book discussion, but this one is memorable because it was right after we finished up. I'm so jealous of Diana's height--I always wanted to be that tall & queenly!

I’m seeing reports that they have settled at $3,000 per work, and if so, I need to see the settlement amount

“Parents only accounted for 16% of book bans…”

As a public school parent, I already knew this.

This not about “protecting children.” It’s about controlling what info kids have access to & trying to create a generation that is less intelligent & empathetic.

Report shows it’s largely officials and orgs demanding book bans - not parents
Only 16 percent of book challenges came from parents themselves

A robin built her nest on my front porch.

It’s right outside my office window. Now every time I look up from my computer, I get to watch her build her little family.

This your timeline cleanse.

I am so overwhelmed by the political state of this country that a part of my brain is shutting down.

If you don’t see me posting political hot takes here, it’s not bc I don’t care. I call & email my reps! I protest!

I’m just at a loss on what to say.

Also I hope we're all on this same page

EVERYONE needs to be brought out of that El Salvadorian hell hole

they were ALL wrongfully deported.

I mean it's good to focus on 'And this guy was here legally and not ever a gang member AND they're Venezuelan'

but NO ONE should've been sent there

7 of my novels were illegally downloaded by Meta from a piracy site to train Meta’s AI.

Meta did not ask for permission, pay or sign licensing contracts. They stole.

I have an epilogue in my upcoming YA Horror THE SILENCED & all of my other books bc as a reader I love to know how it works out in the end.

I also love when movies end w/snapshots like “3 yrs later Jane became the president of a major tech company & finally divorced Brad….”

Do you like epilogues?

Bookish friends-

I have an old TT post (more than a year) about author JD Barker getting lots of views now.

Does anyone know why? I googled him & didn’t see any recent news.

It’s my post about Barker asking reviewers to pose w/out clothes to promote his book. Did he do something else recently?

As a writer, I try not to talk in absolutes. Words have meaning. There are always exceptions…

Except for this— It is NEVER ok to sleep w/ur babysitter. Ever.

There is always a power imbalance-especially if ur a millionaire, 40yrs her senior, & she’s homeless.

Today I turned in copy edits for THE SILENCED (Girl Interrupted meets Poltergeist, Sept. ‘25, Delacorte)!!!

I immediately danced to Janet Jackson. In my mind, I can still do the original choreography to “If.”

Writers—what is your celebration ritual when you finish a book or draft?
