In PISCES, daily n–3 fatty acids cut serious cardiovascular events in dialysis patients by nearly half (HR 0.57). Fish oil clearly had bigger fish to fry than placebo: fewer MIs, strokes, cardiac deaths without extra adverse catches

Very proud to have lead the Australian arm of PISCES. Huge thanks for Charmaine Lok for the collaboration.
In the PISCES trial involving participants receiving hemodialysis, fish oil (n−3 fatty acids) was compared with corn-oil placebo. The rate of serious cardiovascular events was lower with daily fish-oil supplementation. Full trial results: nej.md/49zWuqo

If you are a medic that follows this advice, you get a professorship. If you are a statistician following this advice, you get laughed at (until you rebrand as a data scientist 😘).
In medicine they are called "risk factors" and, of course, you want all "important" risk factors in your model all the time

Unless a risk factor is not statistically significant then you can drop that factor without issues
