if you dont like the art someone makes, you can just click the block button and move on with your life, it is seriously that easy
If you make a beware post and it boils down to, "eww I don't like the art they like," you belong in middle school rather than on bluesky and you're getting blocked.

I don't share my job a lot on here, but I'm active duty USCG.

I was once asked, while buying lunch in uniform, if I knew what the weather was going to be. 😂

Usually it's, my (relative/friend) worked there, do you know them?

I never do. We're small, but not that small.
I work in a library. Hands down, it's "Do you just get to sit and read all day?"

Close second is not a question but the baffling statement of "I haven't read a book in years."
What’s the worst question someone can ask after you tell them your profession? For linguists, it’s definitely “how many languages do you speak?”, but I’m curious what else is happening to the rest of y’all out there?!

"Taboos are for people who aren't going to fix the world."

I love this quote from @sunnycogs.bsky.social
-to mix, and trying is taboo. Which is why the villain is kicking everyone's butt. Taboos are for people who aren't going to fix the world. Sure, figuring it out requires experiments on sapient creatures, but do you want progress or not? Tinorkk can't hide from the human world forever.

#DecemberWorldbuilders

Yay, science!

Anyone can participate. I have a first (lowest) tier ecologist in my second novel that combines a couple world techs.

The most important invention in the novel series was developed by a will known criminal.
Welcome to the first week of #DecemberWorldbuilders! This week is about SCIENCE (broadly speaking) (you can play along even if you're writing pre-industrial fantasy!)
Today's Q: Can anyone in your world participate in scientific research? Or is it reserved for elites?

If you're new to cooking or don't trust yourself to recognize a bad AI recipe, for the love on god, do not just use random recipes from random profiles. Find trustworthy sites and creators (Serious Eats, NYT Cooking, J. Kenji Lopez-Alt, Alton Brown) and search their archives for what you need.
NEW: AI “recipe slop” is overrunning search and social. Food creators say Google’s AI Overviews and glossy fake food pics are drowning out real, tested recipes — collapsing traffic and setting home cooks up for disaster, especially this Thanksgiving.

#AwesomeCharacters

Oh yes. I am writing a series and there's a lot going on that gets revealed as the story goes on.

My favorite character like this is named Sasake. A childhood friend of Mist. He pops up, drops a hint to a huge reveal, then disappears.
Tell me more about your #AwesomeCharacters

Do you have any side characters with their own adventures going on in the background of your story?

Do we get many glimpses?

Is it in the same genre as your main work? E.g. romance in the background of horror?

For a typical war, that would be when humans lived on Earth.

For a Talithan conflict, there have been upheavals and citizen unrest in their history. It hasn't hit full on war status. They all have ended in some form of government change, however.
#NovemberWorldbuilders Does your fictional world have any wars in its history that are now over? What was the conflict about? What were the repercussions of it?

Marriage in Talitha Harbor. @Kiraofthewind did a great job of highlighting marriage in most Earthian societies.

The Talithan don't have marriage for many of those reasons.

They are taught autonomy at a young age. Intrinsic rewards are crucial to how their society functions. 🧵
I GOT A YAP SESSION WRITTEN UP

Read on to learn more about marriage in Aloutia. A thread🧵

On marriage and partnership in the PD, pre and during the Greed Wars:

The Good Thyme gang has a saying, that “love is free and infinite” which for them means that they love without marriage and they love as
Yessss I look forward to it! (Full disclosure I'm married as well as polyamorous, but also have complicated feelings about the institution/how it's structured in our society, and always interested in different relationship paradigms! IMO "fuck marriage" is a valid perspective even if it isn't mine)

Not really. The Talithan's were the first humans on the planet they live on. There's no other sentiment, in a human way, life form. They have been on the planet for more than a thousand Earth years (more than 1k Talithan sols by the second novel).
It's our next week, #NovemberWorldbuilders! The theme this week is HISTORY in your fictional worlds. To start off with: does your world have any ancient (perhaps long-lost) civilizations? Did they leave ruins behind? Does anyone know what happened to them?

Yes, but mainly world specific holidays. Though I wrote a Halloween short story with one of my favorite characters (see my last post, ha). Talitha Harbor has several large festivals throughout its year. So far only one has made it into the series. Founder's Day.

Halloween, hands down. I keep Halloween decor up year around. I have a corner of my livingroom dedicated to the Halloween Town made by Lemax. There are also little skeletons all over my house. I have a short black Christmas tree and a piano playing doll under it, and more.
