This was such a great “talk” to see in person. Highly recommend.
Our final presentation video.

Sam Aaron takes us all the way out. Lighting the fire of making music with code in all of us. What a blast.

Thank you for enduring these releases. #goatmire will aspire to be quiet until we have something new to share.

It’s insane that within just a few weeks, two of Canada’s major cities opened polar opposite transit systems.

REM - An extension to a high frequency, fast, fully automated metro system

Finch West - A many years late, over budget, disastrously slow light rail line

#Marktplaats protip:

userContent.css (in FF, not sure in other browsers)

ul.hz-Listings > :not(.hz-Listing) { display: none; }

This will stop all the scroll-jumping that happens as you try to browse results.

Bring back the railway bubble!
While Trump talks up manufacturing, Bloomberg notes the only real growth outside tech and healthcare is AI data center spending, likening it to past buildouts like the 1870s railways or the 1990s fiber and wireless booms (and bubbles).

The U.S. economy now hinges on OpenAI 10xing revenue in 5 years

PSA!

It's so easy to forget to handle websocket reconnects in LV, but if you're deploying regularly, your users are likely seeing A LOT of bugs coming from this.

Go to one of your pages, click around a bit, then run `liveSocket.socket.triggerChanError()`, and see what happens.

I'm pulling the plug on Code Code Ship next week Friday.

As part of this, I'm releasing highlander_pg as open source. It's a variant of my original highlander package, which uses postgres advisory locks. It's solid! It is ergonomic! It is production-tested!

Testing out Elixir 1.19-rc.0. App compilation times are unchanged.

But dependency compilation is pinning all 24 cores on my machine and is down to 55s from 143s. Big upgrade!

I just published this video, and the next night, Russia launches drones at Poland. It really underscores the point. The European NATO countries need Ukraine just as much as Ukraine needs security guarantees from them.

Toronto has tried this with Bloor, University and Yonge by installing bike lanes, making the street safer, slower for all and Ford is going to court again to rip them out. So speed cameras it as good as we might get (ignoring the "tax grab" nonsense toddler rhetoric).
I agree with Ford on this. These cameras are nothing but a tax grab

If municipalities were serious about managing speed they would design the roads appropriately

Cameras should be the last tool used

In #Phoenix #LiveView v1.1.0-rc.0 we shipped `:key` support for comprehensions in HEEx. The idea was to finally be able to have change tracking in comprehensions. We did this by leveraging LiveComponents. Sounds easy enough, right? There were some problems though. A thread. #MyElixirStatus

PSA: Tailwind (aka Phoenix) users should add the following CSS to their project:

.\@container > * + * { border: 5px solid red !important; }

With a comment saying "if you see this, you messed up, containers should only ever have one child element!"

Are we doing transit hot takes?

America (🇺🇸) has lots of transit actually, it just needs to use it.

America has a land use problem, not a transit problem.

(Exception: NYC)
It is remarkable how many supposedly pro transit politicians do not understand that we do not have a capital underinvestment problem, but a costs problem
