The "Citizens United" decision in 2010 made corporations & unions "people," with 1A free speech rights, so can spend unlimited $$ on political ads in elections, leading to a surge in "dark money," Super PACs, & vast influence of wealthy donors, despite concerns re corruption & fairness.

If you’re looking for something to do, start working on overturning citizens united in your state. States control the power corporations have. Take their political power away with a ballot initiative. Here’s how: open.substack.com/pub/robertre...
How to Get Rid of "Citizens United"
We can do away with it without a new Supreme Court. Nor do we need a constitutional amendment. There’s a far simpler way.

Democratic politicians need to stop accepting Trump’s white nationalist premise that immigration is bad and proudly and loudly make a positive case for why America’s identity and history as a nation of immigrants is so important.

The normalization of this madness is so quick that we’re debating whether a second illegal strike was wrong after an initial illegal strike with no proof of any crime and we’ve already seen just random murders of fishermen normalized with the excuse they’re running drugs, which isn’t legal either.

The man who now has a member of his cabinet giving orders to murder people once said he could shoot someone and get away with it. It’s the same man who called for the execution of five innocent Black teenagers.

We should not be surprised by who Trump is. Because he told us who he was.

Having the Coast Guard, which falls under the Department of Homeland Security, decide that a swastika isn’t really a symbol of hate? That makes me, an American Jew, feel pretty damn unsafe.

@maxwellfrost.bsky.social is 💯 right. While MAGA is falling apart, the leftovers are dangerously faithful to Trump, and they will see his murder-laden posts as a call to action. Rhetoric that inspires violence must be challenged by republicans.

Astonishing to stop and realize that, at any given moment, bands of masked men armed to the teeth are storming churches and daycares, terrorizing entire communities—and that most of the country's political establishment barely blinks.

Senate Dems, do not cave. Ensuring healthcare premiums don’t surge is an 80-20 issue. They want to gut the ACA because their disdain for Obama far outweighs their concern for anyone’s health.

Walmart, McDonalds and Amazon are the largest employers of people who require SNAP assistance.

The CEOs earned between 18-40 million last year, 1000x their median employee income.

They took billions in profits, while their workers relied on SNAP to survive.

Wanna fix fraud and abuse?

Fix that.

The truth is simple: trans people didn’t ship our jobs overseas. Immigrants didn’t cut millions of Americans’ healthcare.

The real problem is obscene wealth concentration and corporate greed.

We cannot get tricked by their scapegoating.

Dems have a bill to fund SNAP and feed families through the shutdown. Yesterday, Senate R’s blocked it.

It’s needless and cruel to use hungry children as bargaining chips. Previous shutdowns did not cut SNAP. Release the funds.

Members of Congress will still be paid on Nov. 1 unless they personally ask not to. I’ve done that. But our staff won’t get a dime. What kind of boss pays him or herself while their team goes unpaid?
