My 96-year-old buddy is in the hospital this week. I took him for a walk yesterday and we sat in the waiting room near the NICU. We met a baby who was less than an hour old. If that baby lives to my friend's age, their lives will span nearly 200 years.

Last night I dreamed I was going for a walk with our wonderful dog Jake, who left this world 6 years ago. It was magical.

Making it even better, he was wearing a cute little sailor's hat.

Watching lawn-care crews roll up to a neighbourhood for their weekly visit, roll their machines over perfectly dead grass, and roll out, ready to do it all again next week.

Thanks, I hate it
I found a map from 1979 of Via Rail routes across Canada with daily service, and compared it to a new map I made of cities that are currently served by daily (minimum 7 trains/week) passenger rail service.

It's bleak.

One of the unexpected joys of fatherhood for me has been cozying up on the couch with a blanket and watching as one of my kids plays video games, so today is 👌

This exact thing happened to me. The "birdsong" alarm on my phone uses the exact combination of birds likely to be singing in my neighbourhood just before first light, so I'm now trained to wake up at about 4:30.
this is also why i play my least-favourite song during sex. for science

One way I know we did a good job raising these kids is if I enter the house and announce my presence with a “tell me why-ee?” I’m almost guaranteed to be greeted with a spirited “ain’t nothing but a heart-ache.”
