If your party is in the minority with little institutional leverage then yes, all you have left is performance, correct. So make the performance convincing!
"I'd rather feel good vibes than accomplish anything"

Also driving a hard bargain on including policy restrictions in an approps bill is what "fighting" looks like in the minority, but the userbase here does not want to acknowledge that
I don’t expect them to win. I do expect them to fight.

yes, when you have little to no power, you make your case to voters why they should elect you back into the majority
hey are you familiar with how things usually work with the minority when one party controls both chambers

Some "hard bargain", really signaling that they'll hold the powerful to account when (if) they regain power

Love to see people in the year 2026 spend all day talking about what the Dems can’t do and shouldn’t try

I mean, sure, Congress should, they never should have given the money in the first place and there's about a million things Congress should be doing to assert Art I powers

But this whole piece is written like Dems have a veto supermajority in both chambers
“The proposal that is now sitting before the Senate [gives ICE and CBP more funds]. Instead of cutting those agencies another big check from taxpayer money, Congress should use its constitutional power over spending to pull back the funding it gave DHS in July.”

There is a strain of blue MAGA on this site that conflates “the maximalist demands being expected in this moment” with “what the Democrats can accomplish in the short term” and it’s killing any momentum for long-term change
“Renee Goodman [sic], Alex Pretti – there are no words,” DeLauro said.

“You said there were no words after the murder of those two individuals,” said Rev. Jack Perkins Davidson. “I think the words are ‘Abolish ICE.’”

The ask is “abolish borders, noone is illegal on stolen land” and “abolish dhs” is the compromise position
I mean, sure, but that is a fundamentally different ask than "abolish ICE"

Hence my concern that this has a significant and increasing risk of becoming the next defund the police

No unions but police unions, apparently
During Tuesday’s meeting, Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson described the chief’s comments as “disturbing” and “wholly unacceptable.

Do not get it twisted. The REAL change we are seeing right now, and which we need to sustain, is the revealing of how much we have the power to care & provide for each other in ways the state has continually abdicated its supposed responsibility to do in order to consolidate power.

You know, many of us said the post 9/11 War on Terror measures were Orwellian bullshit at the time, from DHS to ICE. The Patriot Act was chilling as well.

Some of us objected vociferously. Perhaps we didn't have the mics or the power, but we remember 2001-2005 as a terrible time in this country.
