The march in Chicago has continued on past Trump Tower and is turning back south into downtown.

The snow is coming down hard now.

As it does, the column chants, "say it once and say it twice, we do not fuck with ICE"

“Independent” is doing too much work in this first wave. They are arresting journalists and just like everything else they’ve done, they’re testing the limits of our resistance by starting wt vulnerable margins.

Congressional Dems want to "reform" ICE to look more like "regular" cops. The same "regular" cops that killed over 1300 people last year—a nearly 20% increase in killings since 2020. mappingpoliceviolence.org

Law enforcement agencies across the country are failing to provide us with even basic information about the lives they take. So we collect the data ourselves.

If the Democrats approve the unprecedented DHS and ICE funding package (3x 2024’s already record budget!) based on these meaningless and, in any event, unenforceable “reforms,” it will be among the greatest moral betrayals and strategic failures of the modern era.
Dems coalescing around 5 restrictions on ICE, I'm told:

DHS required to cooperate with state probes (big)
CBP stays at border
warrants for arrests
IDs, bodycams
ICE out of churches, schools

"That package unites a lot of Dems," Sen Chris Murphy tells me on the pod:

As Trump scrambles to contain the damage from the latest ICE horrors, Senator Chris Murphy offers a sharp indictment of Trump-ICE lawlessness—and explains how Dems can meet the urgency of the moment.

A reminder that ICE hasn’t slowed down in Minneapolis at all.

Outside of Minnesota, it might feel like everything has changed since Alex Pretti’s murder. But ICE hasn’t actually lost any power and they’re continuing to terrorize our communities.

Almost every reason people have for defunding or abolishing ICE is also a reason to defund or abolish the police, yet many people who are rightly calling for action against ICE would never come close to doing to the same for police. But this fight goes beyond just ICE. ICE represents a larger issue.

I do hope more ppl will come to the conclusion that it’s the poets and nurses, not police, who make us safe. Let this be one part of the legacy left by Renee Good and Alex Pretti…that more ppl disabuse themselves from their mental investment in police.

People already working hard to prove how perfect Alex Pretti was. To show he didn't "deserve" to be killed. But it's a trap folks. You're only feeding into a dynamic where people who are considered lesser get no protection. You don't have to be an Alex Pretti to deserve to live.

I attempted to go to an ICE patrol training here in LA this morning and they had to turn most of us away because of capacity issues and even as I was leaving I saw a ton more folks showing up

so that’s how well their attempts to scare everyone away are going, even in the face of murder
