A special session of the Nevada Legislature could be called as soon as Thursday, but the list of items that could make it on the agenda remains unsettled.

The naked hostility between Nevada's teachers unions is bizarre and inscrutable to most who live here, much less anyone watching from outside, but it sometimes leads to unexpected results.
The union representing Clark County School District teachers is endorsing Gov. Joe Lombardo in his re-election bid, a coup for the Republican who has worked with the union on bills raising education funding and school discipline.

Major Clark County teachers union endorses Republican Joe Lombardo for Nevada governor - The Nevada Independent
The endorsement a shift from the 2022 election cycle, when the Clark County Education Association declined to back Lombardo or then-incumbent Gov. Steve Sisolak (D).

The Dem base wants the shutdown to continue because it’s the only time we’ve felt like our electeds were representing us: trying to squeeze the GOP instead of squeezing us to accept concessions; directing their anger at the Republicans instead of at their own voters for wanting them to resist

"See, we came together and compromised" is a good talking point when the gettable swing voter has a vaguely positive sense of both parties or how the system is supposed to work. Not when the 50th percentile marginal vote is like "I hate both of them so much" and your offer is "cool, I'm like both!"

One of the slave power secessionist complaints was that Northern juries kept acquitting people who obstructed the Fugitive Slave Act. But even when the bastards had the federal government on their side, there was no way around the Sixth Amendment's requirement of not just a jury but a local one.
