Every year around Thanksgiving, I see tons of grad students post heartbreaking messages on social media about how their loved ones don’t understand or support their decision to study what seems like something pointless or silly.

Perhaps my American Scientist essay can help!

I put this up for sale early cause I came back to like a zillion notifications and I have no job right now, buy my comic! It's made by a human who loves making comics out of spite, this is the second in my unofficial spite series. The first was a comic about learning to write HTML to spite one guy.
If you would like to read the rest of this 40-page comic, BRAINS, you can snag it from itch for $10, I just put it up in my shop. It will also be available in print at MICE (micexpo.org) in December, where each one will have a hand-drawn custom illustration at the back of the book on the last page.

Big news: I’m writing a book!!

I’ll be writing & illustrating a beginner’s guide to appreciating wildlife in cities/suburbs, & how all of us can make our neighborhoods better for those animals.

Thank you to my book agent @ericsmithrocks.bsky.social & the folks at Storey for believing in this book!

Libraries purchase books. When you see a book at the library, it isn’t “free”

the library bought it.

which in turn means that the community bought it.

In other words, library books are not lost sales for authors and publishers; they’re positive sales. Active sales. Those are bought.
