Here they come....

Winter scented plants are coming into flower....

Coronilla valentina subsp. glauca 'Citrina', although I think the common name Bastard Senna is a taking it a bit far 🤣

In old European folklore, houseleeks (Sempervivum tectorum) were grown on cottage roofs to guard against lightning and fire. Its little starry blooms and tight rosettes were thought to draw danger away from the hearth, keeping the household safe and sound. #FolkloreSunday

Quite pleased with the leaf and flower combination on this Cyclamen confusum seedling. Only sown two years ago, they do well if you keep them moving.

What grass is this?

Setaria pumila/Yellow Bristle Grass? Appeared in an area next to pastures, Herts UK.

V attractive, catching the evening sun.

Safe to gather seed & distribute in some in our wild grass areas/meadows, or will it take over?

Please don't cut back shrubs and hedgerows until wildlife has taken all the autumn berries! Hawthorn, for example, is a fantastic source of food for birds - including blackbirds, thrushes and (if the weather gets very cold) waxwings.

When you find bindweed and make it your mission to remove as much root as you can!

All plants removed where possible, cleaned up the roots and will be replanted in due course as this revamp makes progress.

About three trugs of bindweed roots removed.

Bulbophyllum grandiflorum I really adore this species, with it large tan spotted flowers alien shape. This has been a very fuss free plant just sits with the other Bulbo's, and gets on with it. #orchids #orchidaceae #flowers #greenhouse #nature #species #garden #gardening #plants #blooms

The Mahonia has begun to flower, so useful for late pollinators. I’m off to do my usual volunteering at Wisley’s Hilltop. There will only be two of us instead of the usual four and there is a Craft Show so we might be busy.
