Chilli growing, photography, cooking stuff, rugby watching, paddle boarding, occasional Land Rovers and general Cornwall things. Also tax. Mostly in Penzance, sometimes London. Not Cornish.

Very noisy tawny owlet photo (in the camera's defence, it was pretty much dark and I was using a 300mm zoom at ISO 12800). There are a pair in the garden and at the moment they spend every night shrieking for food at 5 second intervals which is cute for at least an hour.

Still a lot of clean up going on from the storm, but good to see something in Cornwall looking peaceful after the last week.

"Enjoying" the observations from Gwennap Head, with the 77mph gust a few minutes ago matching up with the experience of the house now moving quite a lot.

Finishing off a tough run of December fixtures at the Mennaye against league leaders Ealing Trailfinders tomorrow. Here’s the Pirates 23 - expecting our biggest crowd for a home league match for years.

Thinking lots about baking lately. Wittgenstein apparently once wrote that ‘Raisins may be the best part of a cake; but a bag of raisins is not better than a cake.’ @nigelwarburton.bsky.social calls this Wittgenstein's 'critique of pure raisin', which rather made my day. @wiglet1981.bsky.social

So, you cross the Po on the Ponte Vittorio Emanuele 1, do the short climb up the Monte dei Cappuccini, turn the final bend and suddenly you're staring across Turin at the Alps. It's an extraordinary moment.

Tried a lomography film out for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and they are pretty nice aren’t they? Was perfect clear orange skies which always helps.

What’s the worst question someone can ask after you tell them your profession? For linguists, it’s definitely “how many languages do you speak?”, but I’m curious what else is happening to the rest of y’all out there?!
