Why the Fabian strategy is a loser. Romans need to wake up and adopt a direct confrontation approach.

In Earth Science (or at least in cimate/atmos/ocean) there is no particular significance to last author. The senior author (PI) is often second author, but just as often will be in the middle of the list.
Google Scholar has introduced a 'Sh-index' metric that scores papers higher if you are first or last author. Apart from the fact metrics are generally bad, this one explicitly punishes PIs who often collaborate, publishing with 2 or 3 equal PIs at the end of the list.

Researchers welcome the initiative, but say it doesn’t go far enough to capture the nuance of researcher productivity and impact.

Chemistry is really not my strong point, but, generally speaking, if you have a source of particles how can they neither accumulate nor interact (i.e. be inert)?
The source of funding here covered in reporting of Stardust's public press release pretty much guarantees this project will end up somewhere between 'ineffective' and 'harmful', in the same way anxious and impatient silicon valley VC has hurt carbon removal

The fundraising haul marks strong enthusiasm for experiments aimed at lowering temperatures, said the company. But it also raises questions about commercializing technologies with potentially damaging...

Like, I get it how evolution and natural selection worked to select for humans whose brains cannot just tune out their kids’ screaming.

All i’m saying is that once you introduce the interstate highway system you run the risk of starting to naturally select in the other direction.

There's a good essay in @science.org about the importance of free global access to climate and weather data. The atmosphere doesn't know about borders, so paywalls anywhere hurt predictions everywhere; even more so for those who can't pay

honestly I don't really mind writing the 15 page research summary (though 10 pages would be better for both writing and reviewing). It is, inter alia, a helpful conduit to plan out a project.

What kills me is the extra week(!) filling in tabs in research.gov, and ...

the amount of time we spend trying to raise $$$ for our research is absolutely immense and results in a huge amount of wasted time. BUT there is a limited amount of money, so they have to have some method of distributing it. not sure what the best way to do it is.

So AGU apparently took down their announcements introducing the plenary keynote speaker for this year’s fall meeting?

Does anyone have insight into what happened there?

I know the instant ten was advertised as being able to be set up in 5 minutes.

But whoever timed that did not have a helpful 4 year old by their side.
