Overpopulation concerns are always really about racism. It's just that they think there are too many brown, black and asian people. It's also scientifically bullshit, the Earth can support more people at a high standard of living, even if capitalism can't.
i personally recommend beating any concern over the notion of overpopulation out of your head, bc it turns out the “ahhh big number too many people” impulse is incredibly easy for fascists to exploit
