“Expanding community oversight of policing has been an uphill battle for decades,” says state Senator Angela McKnight, who represents Jersey City. She is a sponsor of a bill that would strengthen investigatory powers for civilian oversight boards.
New Jersey Cities Are Pressing Resistant State Officials for Civilian Police Oversight
Local officials in Newark, Jersey City, and Trenton want civilian agencies that can investigate police and issue subpoenas. But they keep running into the state’s Democratic leaders.

Just had an absolutely fascinating exchange with @hikikomorphism.bsky.social on the use of generative AI in law, which resulted in me crafting a question designed to trip an AI up in numerous ways; the AI correctly identifying those traps; and then getting the answer spectacularly wrong anyway. 1/x
modern deep research tools are pretty good. Out of curiousity, would you be willing to give me a question that would require nontrivial research? something you know the answer to, where the answer is tweet-length? I'll run it through a deep research tool and respond with the summarized output

Groups like the Heritage Foundation need to be destroyed.

Stripped of tax exempt status, the ability to spend unlimited sums of money on politics, and the ability to conceal donors.

Go down a list: Heritage, CNP, the Manhattan Institute, ALEC, DonorsTrust, Americans for Prosperity, etc.

Today in 1995, US and Norwegian scientists launched a Black Brant XII high-altitude sounding rocket from Andøya Island off of Norway to study the aurora borealis. A Russian early-warning radar on the Kola Peninsula quickly detected the launch, which operators mistook for a US Trident II D5 SLBM.

I see a criticism of Judge Menendez already, but her ability to constrain federal law enforcement is questionable at best. The 8th Cir. is not going to go out of their way to block ICE in MN. She’s asking tough questions. I think her power here is very limited and folks should be prepared for that.

When I teach Vietnam, I explain that opposition to the war really grew in fits and starts. Some big rallies and visible protests, but also a steady stream of celebrities and ordinary folks breaking with their priors and taking a new stand.

This last month, this last week, feels like a real shift.

Just. Use. Signal.
Signal isn't really that secure.

Minnesota, my home, is carrying a heavy burden right now.

Being kind is not being weak. The strength to care for others, to love and protect our neighbors, to be a shield and not a sword, to be warmth in the cold is true Minnesota nice.

I said what I said about the silly people who say, "But there has to be a path back for MAGA folk!🤡" There has always been a path back. It's never been an issue at all. Many anti-MAGA folk spent some part of their life on the hateful side.

But the path back involves repair. Undoing harm. Like this.
He spent decades bringing the religious right to power. Now he's marching to undo it.

Rev. Rob Schenck spent decades helping build the Religious Right—commingling church and state to advance conservative causes. Now, he says he must confront the damage he helped cause.
