there’s often this assumption in the US that companies will “do the right thing” and through our monocultural media system and political saber rattling that used to be true! but now you can just ignore outcry and pay the right political party and carry on.
Remember:

When Tylenol was poisoned *by an outsider* and killed people, the company recalled all their products & redesigned them.

When Intel’s Pentium had a bug so obscure it affected 1 in _9 billion_ long division calculations, they recalled their chips.

ChatGPT was made deadly *by its team*.
i don’t see how any of the benefits of chatgpt and other consumer-facing LLMs can possibly outweigh their incredible ability to induce suicides

An additional part of this is that the audience that will pay for journalism instead of listening to a kind of stupid person plagiarize an article on TikTok is almost exclusively this website and three subreddits.
While I do agree that this place is 35 years old, I think that’s mostly because it’s a website and those mostly got replaced with discords, comments sections under videos, and group chats you send funny TikToks to.

gentle reminder to everyone saying CBS employees should quit—the job market is bad and people need to pay their bills and have health insurance. simply walking away is a luxury and a privilege and many people can’t afford it.

60 Minutes is the GOAT at covering all sides of a hot political topic fairly. Their recent coverage of Israel is a pristine example of that and should legit be studied in j-school. Bari putting her finger on the scale is atrocious.
CBS News EIC Bari Weiss had concerns about the CECOT piece, I’m told. The network decided to hold the segment pending, among other things, comment or an interview with White House officials next year…

It doesn’t mention it because the more northern breeding center was shut down long before DOGE. The new world screwworm‘s march north has been happening for some time and the new breeding centers we’re building will take time to produce enough sterile flies. this was a long term policy failure.

mom went in for a stroke work up where they moved her to the stroke ward at 2am and woke her up at 6am and I very much understand the logistical necessity but strike me as wild how impossible hospitals are about sleep for patients. It’s the last ranked priority.
My bio mom is in the hospital right now for a COPD flare up and one of my spicy medical takes is that we have a lot research about how sleep deprivation is horrible for health and recovery but somehow this is totally ignored in clinical situations and waking you up every two hours is fine

The Duellists by Ridley Scott and Scaramouche by George Sidney are where it’s at for European style sword fights from Hollywood.
I love videos titled "What Sword Fight Scenes Could Look Like If Hollywood Didn't SUCK" and which then depict sword fight scenes that suck

🍃 SCOOP 🍃

President Trump is preparing to order his administration to dramatically loosen restrictions on MARIJUANA.

The order would reclassify cannabis from Schedule I — the same level as heroin — to Schedule III — the same level as Tylenol and codeine and some steroids.
Trump seeks to cut restrictions on marijuana through planned order
The president is expected to attempt to classify marijuana similar to some common prescription painkillers and other drugs.

ran into this when I used Pods to move across country this year. Pod was just never delivered because they have a shortage of drivers. My movers told me it was extremely bad on the east coast due to the limits on who gets CDLs and salaries being at some of their lowest in ages.
Ok people like when I talk about my job, modern logistics work for food manufacturing,

And here’s a fun one: there’s already a shortage of truck drivers and it’s about to get very bad, this will lead to a lot more inflation

USPS is a government service and we REALLY don’t want all mail delivery to be privatized because then many people simply won’t be able to receive mail.

but Amazon continuing to prop up USPS (an org that has been repeatedly cut off at the knees by the GOP) is also not great!

Fund USPS properly!
🚨SCOOP: Amazon is preparing to sever ties with USPS and expand its shipping network as a true coast-to-coast rival.

It could cost USPS more than *$6 billion* a year in lost revenue, and lead Amazon to dominate yet another facet of the economy.

USPS posted a *$9 billion* loss in 2025.

Amazon looks into expanding its nationwide delivery network and giving up its longstanding partnership with the U.S. Postal Service.

The fact this juxtaposition isn’t the headline in the news on a daily basis really illustrates just how mealy mouthed major news in the US has become.
They are beating people who maybe once had a broken taillight and sending them to foreign slave prisons while freeing the worst fraudsters and every corrupt pol. The juxtaposition is so stark and appalling.
NEW: The commutation Trump issued to David Gentile wipes away all further fines & restitution.

Gentile had been sentenced to 7 years for his role in a $1.6B scheme that defrauded thousands of investors.

Prosecutors had been seeking $15.5M in forfeiture.

one of the main reasons the US won the revolutionary war was because Washington insisted on smallpox inoculation for every member of the military. That was TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY YEARS AGO.
Breaking News: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said he personally instructed the CDC to abandon its position that vaccines do not cause autism. The move underscores his determination to challenge scientific orthodoxy — in this case, that vaccines save lives — and bend the health department to his will.
