Remarkable online access to a remarkable and rarely findable book
In 1938 Bill Brandt produced a fascinating book of photographs called A Night in London. These days you’d be hard pressed to find a copy for less than £2,000 as most copies were burned in a warehouse fire. Luckily there is a copy which can be viewed online here www.gorillasites.com/BillBrandt_A...

A neat tool I just came across: Viabundus, a digital road map of northern Europe 1350-1650, that lets you calculate contemporary travel routes/times. In 1500, going Amiens → Köln by horse took almost 7 days and 13 toll payments.

This is the logic of Idi Amin’s expulsions at the scale of the 1923 Greece-Turkey population transfer. Ethnic cleansing by law on a mass scale.
Lam believes her policy would deport all of the proportion in pink - keeping the thin group in black - of the post-2021 legal migrant arrivals. (The draft legislation proposes similar thresholds/rules for all past grants too). She says jar is 3.5m people: an astonishing scale of mass deportations
