last night as i was trying to wind down for bed i had a unified theory of what the fuck just happened, and i wrote it down, and filed it under "well, i can't talk about this on main without sounding insane until and unless the perp gets caught and is provably a groyper"

anyways, great news! (1/X)

From me, a list of Trump supporters who killed, or tried to kill, Democrats and opponents of Trump in recent years (since the right are now claiming all the political violence is from the left!)

I’m sorry, this is just a terrible frame. The last two decades of progress were real and immense, and they’re being undone because authoritarian reactionaries have seized the government, a terrifying collapse of the liberal order. This wasn’t some predestined endpoint of “neoliberalism.”

"We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy as a civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors." -- Thomas Jefferson

Sticking with that image, this country is basically a 350 lb. man still wearing clothes from middle school.
People might know that the House is too small but they don’t know *how* small it is compared to historical ratios. 350M and 435 reps is bonkers when it was 100M and 435 reps a century ago. (Would you believe me if I said that the reason we’re stuck here is racism and sexism?)

The billionaire CEO of the third richest company on the planet gives the President an actual block of gold so his company is exempted from US Government tariffs. And the whole thing is broadcast live on TV.

Anyone who can't see what is happening to this country is unsalvageable at this point.

I estimated in this paper that - even using the mild 100-year global warming potential - methane from US fossil gas infrastructure is about a gigatonne of CO2-equivalent per year. The *entire electricity sector* (not counting methane) is only 1.5 gigatonnes per year.
New paper. I wish this wasn't the case, but most progress on reducing US greenhouse gas emissions is likely spurious. Why? EPA underestimates methane emissions from oil and gas. Relevant today as Repubs vote to gut IRA's methane monitoring/mitigation program. 🧵

In their fevered fantasies this conspiracy must exist because it is the only way these groups could have secured a role in American public life. What could possibly explain the presence of immigrants and black people at colleges, media, positions of power, except a conspiracy

Ok, ok, fine. Kamala would've tripled the ICE budget, started war with Iran, had sec guards stop trans ppl in airports for having x as their gender, deported Pal protesters to El salvadore, taken $1T from Medicare to give to billionaires, and had cabinet members sieg heiling at her inauguration.

Yeah they all flail around like fish giving half answers like "no it isn't *fully* communist" or "it's not communist but it's paving the way for communism". And then they defend all of its actions and glaze Xi like clockwork. Yeah I'm good, don't need to associate myself with people like that.

I've read that engels stuff defending authoritarianism by making false equivocation of dictators to company management. It's not good, and if that's your definition of communism, I don't want any part of that. You just want someone to rule over you while singing songs of worker power and revolution.

Harris had an obligation to court more voters, and also not suck on Israel/Palestine. She failed on both counts.

Voters had a moral obligation to vote for the person who wouldn't turn the US into a fascist dictatorship. Voters failed in that as well.

There is onus on voters as well as candidates.

Communism isn't an ideology, it's a sports team. It has less to do with living in a classless moneyless society where the means of prod. are owned by workers, and more to do with America bad, Russia/China/... good. Self-avowed communists have great difficulty criticizing Putin for invading Ukraine.

Said it before. Will say it again and will keep saying it: Support for slavery never ended. It just lost a war.

Today, right now, many Republicans are amenable to the idea and I expect to see proposals for its return — in one form or another — soon. Likely kidnapped undocumented immigrants.
Here’s JD Vance-influencer Curtis Yarvin advocating a return to slavery.

So that’s how things are going on this July 4th.
