I research my family history and watch pro wrestling. DC resident who can't avoid politics. Loving the vibes here.

Intro post!

- I'm J.R., Chicago-born, NYC-made, DC is home
- #Genealogy is my hobby of choice... more on that in another post :)
- I've loved pro wrestling since childhood. In and out on the current product, but here for takes on 80's Mid-South
- Also crow about Brit crime drama and US politics

y'know, if tech companies weren't so fired up to call every single thing "AI" it would be a lot easier to distinguish "ML spam filter that is well-sandboxed and tuned on your emails" from "giant context and IP-eroding foundation model that makes people paranoid and unhappy"
since the "google is now training gemini on your email contents" thing keeps bumping around here: it's _not happening_. I say this not to defend google but because I know a lot of people that have broken their filtering and made their lives much more annoying from sheer misinformation.
The malwarebytes Google opting-your-emails-into-ai-training thing is not true. The post is based on one bad tweet.

I know anti-tech lamenting is a Bluesky core principle, but please use the same judgement you would for any other clickbait.

If only AEW booked Hangman liked this in 2022. It's been a long time since we've had an asskicking babyface World Champion who doesnt take shit from anyone. Feels like prime Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Lmao I was there!

Ari was awesome, man … always finding trouble like a proper Tree should

Btw, Cal sucks. Then. Now. Forever.
For Big Game week between Cal and Stanford I tracked down the anonymous Oski and Stanford Tree who got into a nationally televised brawl on ESPN 30 years ago that required police intervention. The untold story involves 18 beers, suspensions & lots of blood.

My latest:

What really happened the night Oski beat up the Stanford Tree
"I must've been 18 beers deep at that point. I was in big trouble."

As a hardcore fan of The Wire, I endorse Blue Lights using the "Belfast's Answer to The Wire" tagline.

(it's not really that ... not quite ... but it's also not a stretch to say it's the best police drama to come from the Isles...)
I really like Blue Lights, a cop drama set in Belfast, now streaming on BritBox, even if it doesn't quite live up to "The Wire in Northern Ireland" hype around it:
Review: 'Blue Lights' isn't the Belfast equivalent of 'The Wire.' And that's okay.
Season Three of the Northern Ireland cop drama is now streaming on BritBox

Some of you never paid enough attention to professional wrestling and it shows. A surprising “face turn” always, always, ALWAYS ends back in a return to “heel”.

This is of course a post about Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Apologies, but this take is ignorant. And likely part of the reason Dems struggle in the Deep South.

Imagine not being able to build on this -

I'm so proud to be a fan of Hangman Adam Page, and grateful to AEW for giving him an opportunity to be the change he wants to see in the world
AEW Men's World Champion, Hangman Adam Page, explains why he specifically identifies as the Men's World Champion.

He is a fantastic ambassador for women's wrestling, AEW, and what it stands for.

Hey @economist.com, this is absurd and beneath you. Stop treating this man’s endless whining and bleating as something your readers should engage with seriously.

Since the Democrats worked extra hard to hide who actually supported this, I think the No Kings/Resistance position should be to primary every Democrat unless they publicly call for Schumer's ouster this week

Either they go into total rebellion mode, which they won't, or the people will

my genealogy friends here feel seen
I don’t really worry about how other people curate their own social media. I have friends who exclusively use it to talk about video games, others who haunt the r/conservative subreddit for different perspectives. If someone wants to be here to look at bird pics & blocks certain politics, so what?

The best advice I can give to AEW fans is to just laugh when you see bad faith criticism, there's no need to get angry about it. Who cares?

What's effectively happening here (in the British media at large, too) is the construction of "anti-racism" as somehow a "political alternative" to racism, rather than as a minimal civilisational standard, which in turn (further) vindicates racism as *also* an acceptable political position.
I'm a bit concerned about the use of the word "clash" here, @theguardian.com. Not only does this imply 'two-sideism' (my favourite bit is designation of anti-racist protesters as "hardcore" - turns out the only thing they were 'hardcore' about is techno) but also a physical conflict. Was there one?

Glen Perkins … that is a name I have not heard in a very long time …

The Twins may have thrown in the towel on this season (and this decade) but I’ll take a shutout of the Yanks! Gotta find joy somewhere …
Twins shut out the Yankees for the first time since Aug. 11, 2008.

That night: Glen Perkins for eight and Joe Nathan for one in a 4-0 win at the Metrodome.

Tonight: Simeon Woods Richardson for six and Kody Funderburk, Travis Adams, and Pierson Ohl for one each in a 7-0 win.
